How cool would this be? http://www.imakenews.com/theautogallery/e_article002216577.cfm?x=bk46TT8,bmT8h2wh Apologies if this is old news, this was the first I'd seen of it...
I like it, with the Turbo wheels! More of a modern day 928/944/968, now we just need a lightweight, stripped out car to be a 914, sort of like an Elise!
Is it just me or are all these luxury sports cars starting to look the same except for a few nuances to signify the brand?
It's not just you... I see a lot of Audi R8 in the back half and rear fascia, and almost Ferrari-like front end. I like it, but yeah, it reminds me of other designs in those respects.
Not so much that they're pulling from other designs but it's like they're all starting with the same basic car and then throwing each brands retro inspired parts on it to make it different from a P, Jaguar, AM, Audi etc. Nothing very unique is what I'm getting at.
I don't see it that way. Its a mid engine car afterall... This would be a whole new "super car" to compete with the Macca and 458 and Gallardo and R8. Given that 911 variants range from 80k to 160k (excluding GT2/3), I see this as a $170-200k direct R8 V10 competitor and "lower cost" competitior to the 458 and Macca and Gallardo. To re-use a phrase I used in the Macca mess of threads...I only see this as a great thing for car owners...more competition is always better for the consumer!
I wonder if it has any thing to do with the aero programs they are using to design the cars? Not so much that they are copying each other, instead the comps are kind of directing them in a similar direction. Just a theory.....
Last I heard this was a 961. I doubt they'd re-use the number from such a special car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
"Has the 911 had its day?" Good first sentence in the article. I would say yes and that the 911 product life has reached its peak some time ago. But then, I'm biased towards mid-engined cars even after owning several 911s. I'm looking forward to this, although I tend to agree that this segment is getting crowded.
Hope not, but in any case I'm looking forward to seeing the original 961 at Rennsport IV in a couple of weeks.
