assuming rhe same condition which car has the greater upside? I’ve owned a 964 turbo and was thinking about getting another..... but also the RS looks interesting. Any comments would be appreciated Thanks Chas
easier to find a nice turbo than a nice RSA. 964 is last of the classic 911 body and RWD for the turbo. that means a lot to me, your opinion may differ. turbo values pulled up IMO by the "Bad Boys" image/3.6. RSA is a small number, one market car but a bit of a compromise between Club Sport and true RS/GT3 type spec. so I think the RSA is probably the better investment long term-more upside potential IMO. to me a clean RSA with LSD and no radio/AC/sunroof is 964 perfection (well, except for a true RS). again, your opinion may differ. if you're buying to enjoy the car you can't go wrong. really depends on what you want, lighter/more agile or straight line speed/GT car.
the RSA reminds me of my speedster.... sort of special as to numbers produced but really just an after thought sales gimmick....
Henry what about an early 930 3.0 turbo? Not sure if theres any that aren't crazy money out there though.
depends on what you want.... imho, the 964 version is a much better drive (all for around the same $$$ ?) to me... the 964 turbo is the best of bread. end of the development line with all the updates ROW suspension (or lower) and some speedlines and your good to go
Turbo 3.3 or 3.6? Also, you can probably import a real RS from Europe now. A bit more expensive though but these are the real deal.
25 years old so yes, you can import a real RS. CJ Wilson's Porsche dealer in Fresno has THREE!!!! the maritime blue one is gorgeous. https://porschefresno.com/inventory/used/Porsche+964+RS+Fresno+California+1992+Maritime+1394059 https://porschefresno.com/inventory/used/Porsche+964+RS+Fresno+California+1992+Ruby+Star+1245299 https://porschefresno.com/inventory/used/Porsche+964+RS+Fresno+California+1992+Polar+Silver+1362901
I drove a red 964 RS America back in 1997 in Boston (my first 911) and was amazing about how direct the car felt... There was minimal sound insulation and hard suspension and the car felt alive... It was also a little tricky to drive as you could feel the weight in the back and the lightness of the front... In the end, I bought a 993 which felt more modern and a better daily driver which I required... My guess is that the 964 turbo would feel more of a luxury cruiser in comparison to the 964 RS / RSA that is purpose built for the track... Now if you ask me which I grab the key and go away with, it would be the 964 turbo "bad boys" !!!!
That's insane money for what is basically a 964 with removed sound insulation, less weight and harder suspension.. The engine, I believe is the same... I think it is the limited production number that drives the price... Otherwise, I bet you could (back in 2014 at least, now it is more expensive) find a regular 964 C2 and convert it to RS specifications with relative small budget...
Is there actually such a vehicle? If there is I can only guess it is going to be dear - Hagerty values 1992 Porsche RS at #1 $400k, #2 $290k, #3 $225k #4 $145k but I would imagine a 10k mile car is going to be north of $400k perhaps closer to $500k assuming there even is such a car.
