I didn't realize you already had a 355 Madturk- I would say go w/964 then for the variety. What is an rbw?
A friend of mine was first on the list for the first RWB car in Canada. He was going to get a 964 instead of the 993 kit. However, there were a lot of issues getting firm pricing on things and he decided not to follow through. Nakai-san brings the kit over from Japan and has to work with a local shop to install it. It seemed like the local shop in Canada just couldn't get their stuff together and give my friend a price for the build. At the time he had a budget around $70k to make it happen including the purchase of a 964. I know they eventually did make a 993 RWB car here and maybe even a 964.
+1 nice post, i feel the same way 993 isnt heavier than 964. its just the 964 rear end is more lively adding to the drivers involvement. 993 is too refine and superior imo with the mult-link rear end that takes away the classic 911 feel i wish people stop calling a 964T a 965... which is a misnomer

^^^That's bad ass! I'm still lusting after 993. Wonder if I could daily drive the thing without it rusting to pieces.
965 is the internal model number for a 964 turbo (although there may have been a prototype car that used the same number?). Common in Porsche speak to refer to a 965, or a 951 (944 turbo), or 931 (924 turbo) Same goes with BMW's- I have a 2000 540i and lots of Bmw fans refer to it as an e39, our 2003 330ci is an e46, etc... Congrats on the c2 madturk! Looks great with the carrera script!
Actually I didn't waste too much timing researching this, but found that you may be right- the factory may have never used 965 as 964 turbo, but alas most everyone (in the porsche circles) refers/knows what someone means by it. A little Friday fun- If you are frustrated by that, you are likely also bothered by when people say "poorsh" vs "poorsh-a". I have always said it the technically wrong way, and won't change my ways now I just like the way it sounds better (the correct 2 syllable pronunciation sounds snooty to me). My pet peeve is the more recent trend in the US (past year or so) I've noticed of people saying "no worries" instead of "no problem" or "don't worry about it". I think it came from the Europeans, who I noticed used the term for years- didn't bother me when they said it to me, but it crept over to the US Back to the topic at hand though, I do agree with you regarding the different more refined feel of the 993 rear suspension vs. 964- the evolution of the car was subtle but noteworthy. That said, the difference in a 3.2 911 vs. 964 is much greater than from 964 to 993. I was going to get a 993 cab just to have something different than the 964 I had for a number of years, but the prices were so crazy I stayed with a ferrari (had a 360 after the 964). Actually very glad I did- the 355 (or 348) is very special, but if I were looking to drive the car more miles like I did before having kids (or wanted to track the car like Madturk) I would have gone with the 911.
had a very sweet 993 4S for 8 years. very enjoyable experience sold it and bought a 2000 3 pedal 360 no regrets about selling the 993 well one regret, the gauges in the P car make the 360 gauges look like cheap fiat parts............... but i'll learn to live with it cause the 360 far outstrips the 993 dynamically. RWB thing???????? GACK! Not to my taste, but hey, it's your time and $$$
yes you can. why would you think it will rust to pieces? it wasn't built in 71 before Porsche dipped and plated their body shells
Please No more pics of ugly cars that look like a frog Talk about beauty and the beast German design really is the ugliest.....i could never own a P car
I am fortunate to have a yellow one. Got mine in 2004 from what I understand 1090 spiders were made. 556 came to the U.S. around 25 were yellow. Does anyone have any other #'s Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't definitively think it would, but I've seen the destruction road salt causes here on Illinois roads. (and have no experience/knowledge with 993's ability to deal with such conditions) Guess what I'm saying is, I would be game for a 993 as a daily driver if I didn't find I ruined it in a few years with rust bubbles all over the place.
I hate to say this on this forum. But I have a 997 also (its not a 993) but i like driving the 997 as much or more than the 348. Most people like the Porsche just as much BUT the Ferrari has more of a WOW factor. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is not a garage. That is an indoor climatized car storage area with decorations. A garage: is a place to park your cars, yank engines out, weld up braces, with work benches, tool boxes, and a lift. Occasionally, your wife may store things in the garage.
Mark, You are correct on the number of 348 Spiders imported to the US however, my understanding is that the official number of 348 Spiders built for world wide delivery between 93-95 was 1,146. I have 99349, a triple black 1995.
