Hello Gentleman, my name is Mark and I am brand new to Ferrari Chat. I just made the big jump and purchased my first Ferrari. It is a 1997 355 Berlinetta Red/Tan. I have been an avid Ferrari fan since I was a chid and my father was a FCA member. I was on the hunt for one of these cars for over a year and finally found a beauty. I did my homework on this car and had a PPI done by an authorized Ferrari dealer. Everything was flawless, except that it needed a 15,000 mile belt service. The dealer shared the cost with me and I am having it done at Algar in Pa this week. Anyway, I received the car on Friday and took it out for a 2 hour drive. Durning the drive I turned the radio on and when I got home I never turned it off. I went inside my house and came out a half hour later to find the radio still on. When I went to start the car all of the accessories worked, but nothing happened when I turned the key all of the way. I have spent the entire weekend trying everything from trickle charing the battery for 12-16 hours to numerous ways of using the fob to turn the alarm off and on.
    Any ideas???

For the immobilizer when you get it to where the doors unlock, it beeps twice, and the light on the dash stops flashing you are good and ready to start.
Is the car a 6 speed? It could be a problem with your neutral safety switch. I don't know if the F1 will let you start it in gear. That's the first thing I'd check if your Battery is charged. Sorry, but it could be anything from there.

yes do you get the double beep that signals the disengagement of the immobilizer? I had some trouble starting my '97 after having it sit for most of the winter... turns out the keyfob was part of the issue.

I took the car to algar to have them check it out. (it started after a jump) They though at first it was a bad radio so they changed it. They were just about to put it on the truck to send it back to me when it wouldnt start and started doing the same thing. After another day of investigation they found the main ground cable going from the battery disconnect switch to the frame was loose at the frame and had been arcing. Once tightened all was resolved. I cant wait to get it back and go for a nice long drive!!

You are kidding me, right ?!

Took a Dealer that kind of shenanigans to find such a simple / trivial fault .

Who had to pay for the new radio, btw ;) ?? And, the countless hours of fumbling around --- with thumbs firmly inserted in their arses ???

Tell me about it....... In their defense everything seemed fine after they charged the battery and replaced the radio. I did pay for the radio. It is an alpine with bluetooth. The worst part of all of this is I AM AN ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR!! Oh well. Haha

Well, sounds like you have a good attitude about it :)

Just goes to show, that the problem is all too often a very simple one --- even on a Ferrari :)

    Enjoy your new 355 !!!
