I don't see any reference in the hand book about how the rear diffuser works on the 456, is it fixed, manual, auto and moves at a certain speed? can anyone explain please.

In the event of a failure, it can be manually positioned with the knob on the actuator.

The spoiler is controlled by an ECU in the passenger footwell.

I believe the speed signal comes from the speedometer output, the same as the variable power steering. The power steering ECU (#1) is near the spoiler ECU (see #2).

I believe there are two wires in the passenger footwell that you can plug together to test it. I think the procedure is you plug them together and then start the car and the spoiler should lower itself and then raise itself. Having said that, mine wouldn't do it although it does seem to work (although a little slow) when driving. Anyway, check the shop manual for more details.

Can you share a photo of the two wires.
Likewise i think I see the two wires but they don't seem to do anything.

According to the manual, the spoiler light will then stay on for 2 seconds then move the spoiler to the lowered position and the light flashes 5 times then it raises the spoiler and the light flashes 5times. I just tested mine with the ignition on and the light flashes as stated but I don’t think the spoiler moved. I don’t know if you have to start the car, I turned the ignition on but didn’t start it.

Tried mine again. I don't think it is working. Manual says that it flashes the spoiler light at 2 hz if there is a problem. That is what mine did. In my experience, these get stuck from not being used enough. Assuming the motor is still working you just need to disconnect it from the motor and move it back and forth and oil all the moving parts and it usually starts working again.

Thanks guys for this. Cars developed a couple of issues over the last few weeks. Draining the battery pretty much overnight if not connected to a trickle charger. It's a new battery because I changed it when it started thinking it was the issue. I've disconnected the radio/CD and its looking like that's what's draining it for some reason. Also the starter isn't kicking in just the solenoid clicking so a starter out job. The weather here has turned for the worse so that's it off the road for winter anyway so up on the ramp with it and just work through things.
