It's a bloody duck and NOT a swan!!! Nope, no way this would ever go for under $45K in that condition, if it were ever a REAL auction! At least Ebay has a few rules, and pulled the puppy. - Julie
Ah, well He would have had a very hard time getting any money without any of us seing it and the title, and that's why I wonder just what he thought the upside was. Downside would be if one of us would be an attorney who could be bothered to file a complaint for interstate fraud. And hey guys, thanks for working together on this one. If you ever run across a real one for sale, and want to go in on a good offer, let me know. Darolles, nobody here would have lost a penny, just an opportunity.
I saw this exact same car on Yahoo last year and was able to correspond with the seller via email. The car was stated to be in Los Angeles and as I live in SoCal, I told the seller that I would meet him at location of his choosing and give him a cashiers check for the car, if I could talk to the mechanic who serviced it and inspect it myself. His response was to use an escrow company with 7 day period for me to take it to my own mechanic for an inspection prior to release of funds - if I was not satisfied, then send the car back. I asked for more history about the car and checked out the escrow link that the seller provided. The online escrow company could not be verified by me to be legit and so I suggested an alternative company to do the escrow. No more responses and the ad was pulled the following day. I think that this is a legitimate TR thats identity has been pirated by someone and is used to get numerous people to pony up funds to bogus escrow accounts - probably routed overseas. Anyway, if someone knows how to do some internet sleuthing, I still have the guy's email address and emails on my computer. PM me and I'll forward them to anyone interested.
That's not very nice to use a Ferrari like that. Someone needs to shut this jackass down. Seriously not right using an F-car for that. That's more suited for a Lamb.....
Does this dude think I'm a complete dumb-arse? Wow.... Here's the response I just got: Hello, My name is Brian Dennis, Sorry for the delay,i am a very busy person and i don't read my email each day. Now,i'm back and I want to assure you that the car is still for sale. The car is now in a garage at the SPAIN embassy in 2375 Pennsylvania Av. NW , 20037 Washington D.C. , were my wife is working and If you are still interested to buy my car(1985 FERRARI TESTAROSSA **** PRICE: $9700 *****),I have a contract with a Shipping Comapny and I can ship it any were on my expense . I have the car ready for shipping. I am sorry because I can't meet you, but I'm always on the road some small but important deals. My wife is out of the country for couple of weeks and with this war against Iraq, she will be moved in SPAIN for couple of years, and we will stay there. This is the reason I sell the car. I want you to know that I am a difficult person to make deals with because I am a born dumb (mute) person. If you dont want to continue, I will understand. Also, that is the reason that I choose Internet to sell my car. But, I can provide you any information, to make you know the car better . Because the price is good, I have a lot of customers and e-mails. So please, only if you accept my terms, reply this message, and let me know if you are interested. I told you that I'm a busy person, so I don't have time chatting for nothing. For good order's sake, as a sign of good fate and in order to ensure me as Seller that you are indeed a trustworthy and genuine Buyer i will need a down payment on a escrow website in the amount of $9700. The escrow will hold the funds until you receive and transfer the car. When we will meet with the car and you inspected, the escrow will give me the money, only if you agree with it. Also its safe for both of us. When I have the payment confirmation from escrow, my wife can ask permission from her boss for 5 days to come here and help me to deliver the car at your place and to transfer the paper on your name. The car is in perfect condition, never been involved in accident or something like that. I think this is the safest and the fastest way to finish this deal since my condition as a mute person is a heavy one. The car is in the best shape ever, the title is clear. Regards! Brian Dennis
No way...I work/live 30 minutes from that embassy and my degree is in Spanish Language and Literature...let me know if you want me to call the embassy to confirm this or to drop in and ask to see the car...that is just too funny! Cheers, Travis
...just got off the phone with information...202.452.0100 is the number and the address he listed is the switchboard address...calling them now to try and find out if the car is actually there...stand by... Cheers, Travis
I don't want to get into a big discussion here, but technically, the garage of the embassy of Spain is considered the soverign territory of Spain, right? Even if the car exists, passing title to a US citizen would require proper importation and duty -- things an ambassador or embassy personnel would probably have been exempt from. If it walks like a duck.... -Daniel
This is actually getting funny. That wacko escrow two step is wierd! I mean, a *mute* diplomat returning to Spain because of the Irag war after spain pulled its people out of iraq, and the wife thing and all. I mean, this is funny! If that car really exists and is going to be sold for 7.5k, I'll just be dumfounded. I can't *wait* until tomorrow's phone call results are in...
Boys Boys Boys.... I'm shaking my head in disbelief ....it's a scam....something identical was listed, actually it was a 914-6 for $3500, via the embassy in Miami. Guess the seller is moving up... Daniel...you are correct (if it was real) that all you would have to do is pay duty...no conversion required....note the 8th digit of the serial number is an "A", which is a US build car. Rule #1: You only get what you pay for. Rule #2: Don't buy off of ebay. I have a 97 355 Spider for only 25K....send cashiers check to Bank of Nigeria...I'll arrange shipping (so you can't verify with carrier) and when my wife returns from her visit with the Pope and I'm fully recovered from my triple bypass surgery, I'll make sure the car is shipped. I'm busy so I will not return your phone calls and my english is little. Car is good. Send money.
Incredible! I got the same email response as Jack's. Anybody in the D.C. area that can visually and confirm the car??? If it's for real I'm in too! (but I doubt it)

I will want to conform this very privately with your wife before I fork over any money. Once she's done with the Pope, that is. It did get so bizarre that it became pretty funny!
Go check it out, Travis! The escrow thing is typical of this ploy. Only if YOU pick the escrow should you use one! I was busy at a Elementary School this morning, being the World's Fastest Art Car. Darn, this sounds great! You guys'll be motoring in your new TR in NO TIME! Have a cigar for me! You know how those diplomats throw money around, even the deaf/mute ones!!!
i live in dc and am going to 2375 penn ave this weeek to scope it out. i'll even ask security if such car exists.....scam scam scam
Steve, Let me know if you want some company...I will be more than glad to translate/broker the deal right on the spot ;-)... Cheers, Travis
Hola, I just got off the phone with the Spanish embassy...and the response from the woman on the phone was the following: Woman: No, there is no Testarossa in our parking lot here at the embassy. I asked if she was sure and she said, yep! Scam! Cheers, Travis
I also found this car listed on Yahoo a few days ago. Got the same boilerplate letter for the escrow scam. I suggested "Great, we'll use escrow.com" since he didn't specify WHAT escrow website. No response. http://190revolution.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9589 That link has the link to the Yahoo listing. I've been meaning to write to Yahoo about it but I've been so busy with transaction details of my own 308 that I'm only sending my money to THE CAYMANS for (LOL) that I haven't done it. This is the text of a letter I sent to yahoo and AOL, as the originating IP address of the email sent to me was from AOL. I forgot MSN where he has his email account. See this thread http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=227917#post227917 about this ad: http://my.autos.yahoo.com/usedcars/detail/index.html?cid=automobiles-1082337037-9465633 The link for Ad Feedback is broken, that must be why Yahoo is the last website in the country to remove this fraudulent listing.
