'98 355 10k miles with 5k service done ...

    Is that bad? I think the service is mileage or time whichever comes 1st, so a 6 yrs old car should at least have the 15k service done right? How bad is it if service is over due?

    How much is the 15k service?

    conventional wisdom says it should get the major every five years.

    my understanding is that for 1998 FNA had no formal time intervals - just mileage.

    this whole discussion of 15K and 30K keeps popping up every day.

    the only service that really, actually matters on any modern ferrari is the "major" service, traditionally pegged to 30K miles.

    the 15K service is bull****. it's just standard obvious regular maintenance (in my book). the 5K service is a total joke - it's basically a freakin' oil change that doesn't even deserve to be labelled anything else.

    OK last question before I get you mad :)
    So how much is a usual 15k service? Things like belts and clutch are checked/replaced at 30k?

    15k on a 348 is about 2.5k and double that for a valve adjustment. On a 355 I don't believe the valves need adjusting. This car need a 30k service and then it's ready to be driven, HARD!

    i don't know what manual you're reading, buttuz, but a 1998 US 355's 15K consists of (a) oil and filter change, (b) gearbox/differential fluid change, (c) maybe the engine air filter change (more mileage dependent than time), and (d) inspect everything (including the belts).

    the 30K service is basically everything you do on a 15K plus (e) belts, (f) spark plugs, and (g) fuel filter. if you do it by the book. many shops won't replace spark plugs on a 5 year old car that only has 6500 miles on it. but the belts are really what are expensive 'cuz you have to pull the block. some techs will replace a lot more stuff than that "just to be careful". whether you want that is up to you.

    Doody is correct. 15K is basic fluid change and inspection - 30K or 5 years is the major with belts which also can include "while your there" work like water pump inspection / replacement etc etc.
