I've searched both on here and Google in general, been through the generic OBD list and find nothing on C0816 and a only description of "Chassis - Device Power #1 Circuit Malfunction" on OBD-Codes OBD-II Trouble Codes - DTC Codes Car Repair

Need to get this thing inspected, and everything is running fine, no emissions codes, so it'll pass, but not with the damned CE light constantly coming on due to this annoying code.

I've never had both codes showing in the system at once.
Only saw the C0816 one time a month ago, it hasn't retunrned.
But the C0800 seems to be occurring every time I get the system back to ready mode.

I also have a P1448, which I'm in the process of swapping thermocouples and ECUs to verify (I have a Capristo with no 3rd bung, so my 3rd TC is in the ECU, but not plugged into anything, just tied up in the engine bay. I don't think the P and C codes are related, but figured I'd mention it.

I would take care of that p1148 first, on my car it seems to show those c0 codes as you listed whenever i have a thermocoupler code, eg 1445 1449 or 1448.

I have also seen a CEL with no codes which is even more fun. Good luck.

    Got me

CO8 is a chassis / transmission code prefix

I would remove and clean all connections to the trans and ECU's for starters, these cars are notorious for bad connections.

Remember bad connections cause ghost CEL issues

    Good Luck :)

I swapped the ECU and TC connections for both the ECUs on the right side of the car. Essentially trying to see if a different code pops up, indicating a bad ECU. Sure enough, now I'm getting a P1445 and a C0814. So it appears that amg55 is correct and the C code is somehow tied to the P code popping up.

I've got a new ECU on order (I have 2 greens on the cats, the 1 on the bypass that was throwing the 1448 is an old, black one) so we'll see if replacing that resolves the problem. I any case, I managed to get it inspected today since it isn't throwing any emissions codes and the ones in the system are still "pending" so no CE.

I just want all the codes gone for good... and also want to be able to chime in on the conversation of whether or not having the bypass TC "dangling" (actually tied nicely to the frame) and not plugged into the exhaust path (since my Cappy has no bung for it) does remedy the 1448 codes.

I'll update once the ECU is in and I swap all the connections back.

I hear rumors that the 1448 will not activate if you have the TC tied to the side, however this is not true in my case. I confirmed the vaccum lines and everything worked, I am riding with the bypass open currently.

I get the following codes depending on if p1445, 1448/9 are on ...

    c0300
    c0314
    c0514
    c0900

My bypass (Capristo) is working fine. Opens/closes as it is supposed to, so my 1448 code definitely isn't due to it being forced permanently open.

I'm pretty sure my black ECU is bad since hooking the right cat TC into it caused the code to change from 1448 to 1445. But yeah, I've seen mixed reports on getting rid of 1448 by tying off the TC. Since my Cappy exhaust doesn't have a bung I have no choice but to either remove it or "dangle" it. Either way I'd like to know if I can get rid of it or just have to live with constant CEs.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll update once the new ECU is in.

    Your welcome.

Even though your bypass functions, the 1448 comes from it not being in the exhaust stream as you noticed since it is looking for heat when the valve opens and cooler temp with it closed.

Disconnecting the TC from the ECU will definitely turn a light on, but since your code moved I think you are on the right track with the ecu swap.

I tied mine to the side and capped the bung and I still get the 1448, so I will perform the swap as you mentioned and see if my code moves. Those C0 codes sure are weird, I thought I was the only one but I think they definitely are related to the p144x codes.

    Good luck!

Rather than swapping ecu around and waiting to see if codes appear to verify Tc/ecu function, simply tapping the outputs of the ecu and monitoring the taps real time with a Dvom takes all the guessing and swapping away.

Thanks Bob. I'll give it a shot. I read through your recent epic thread dealing with your TCs/ECUs for pointers, so thanks for taking the time to document all of that.

And thanks again for getting me the TC recently. The PO had completely removed the original 3rd TC and it wasn't included in all the spare/original parts that came with the sale.
