Hey guys, I'm buying my first Ferrari and narrowed it down to a '98 F355 Titanium/Bordeaux 6spd spyder with 11k miles all records, 30k service, and new clutch. Price: $105K Problem is the dealer just got in a '99 360 Modena Coupe 6spd yellow/blk w/8K miles but no service. I'm torn becasue they are both beutiful and now can't decide. Price: $115K What do you guys, as the experts think would be the better of the two in terms of reliability, maintenance, and resale value as my first F-car??
Ignore reliability, maintenance ande resale value when you talk Ferrari. Get what you want. Get what moves you. Oh, and the price on the 355 is a tad high. Try finding one ofr 10 to 15 less. You can do it.
355 is a little high (unless it's a "real" ferrari dealer, as you do pay a premium there); I'd be anxious as to why a 6speed needed a new clutch with 11K miles- I drive pretty aggressive but f-cars are not made for "burn outs" and 0-60 tests so it might have other wear issues. Also, you have to really check the top operation on the 355 spider- so many have problems/issues, even from the day they were sold. Very frustrating. I'm a big fan of Tubis on 355s- if you like that, look for a car that has it already as they are getting expensive. And to me, there's a big difference between the person who wants a spider and a coupe. In Cal, I always like to have at least one convertible in garage. Keep us posted on what you end up with! Eric
If the dealer will throw in the service at that price, get the 360. As long as you get a 6-speed 360, I think you'll have lower maintenance costs than the 355 (and F1 360s, for that matter). Besides, the 355 is priced way too high, imo. Even though you're excited about buying your first Ferrari, take your time and don't forget the PPI!
Thanks for the advice guys. After going back and forth I decided to go with the 355 spyder from Symbolic in La Jolla. The car is very very clean, I've attached pics. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congratulations! Beautiful color combination - I've noticed more titanium or silver exteriors with bourdeux/red interiors for Modern Ferrari(s). In the past mostly europeans opted for this combination.
Louis- Congrats on your beautiful car- and Symbolic is a pretty good dealer in my opinion so I'm sure they will take care of you in the future. I hope you have a great weekend driving in around in your new "prancing horse". Regards, Eric
HOLY CRAP!!!! My FAVORITE CAR IN MY FAVORITE COLOR!!!!!! you are sooo lucky! congrats! I'm soooooooooooo jealous. Can I have a ride
you'll love the convertible......you can actually carry on normal conversation with the top down and windows down....no wind noise like in my porsche convertible....even with the windows up and the wind screen between the rool bars....you'll love the Spider
Thanks for all of the feedback. I am thinking of changing out the wheels. Does anyobody know of any sites I can go to and see different wheels on 355's??
