ok. what ive got is a 99 355 spider. the tech tells me that the drivers seat will not communicate with the convertible top ecu.

the other thing is the window motor on the passenger door is out because it was bad so i ordered one and it was defective as well. ferrari n.a. says there are no more in america and no one has one including ferrparts and ricambi.

if anyone has one i will buy it, by the way lol.

what im wondering is if the passenger window motor is out will it still not communicate with the driver seat.

what i did next was meter the seat potentiometer and i got resistance from it from 12k to 8k depending on the position.

has anyone heard of that "top ecu" going bad? sorry for the long post there is just a lot of detail.

    thanks

To get the top to operate you must:

    1. Have the parking brake on
    2. Have the key turned on
    3. Have the windows down a bit
    4. Open the top and lift it until there is a beep
    5. Press the open top toggle switch

If anyone of these items is not done, the top will sit there and beep.

If the seat potentiometer is out, there was a thread on cleaning the potentiometer and putting it back together.

I don't know about the window motor, but if you have a friend who is an electrical engineer, he or she can probably help you take apart, clean, and reassemble the window motor, put it back in, and it will probably work.

A lot of things on a 10 year old car are just "dirty" and need to be cleaned.

For instance: I was told the motor on my right headlight needed to be replaced: $700. :( I went to my mechanic (who is an EE), and he took it apart, cleaned it, reassembled and reinstalled it. The right headlight works like a charm. :)

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not having a problem
With the top yet because I can't get the top ecu to see the drivers seat. With the test set it says no comm to the seat.
This is a first for me. Any ideas

You need to reset it with the sd2

Did you try moving the seats forward manually then using the alternative top lowering switch located along the wire near the top's fluid reservoir?

Thanks for the info. U guys r great

And for the sd2 machine that would only usually be found at the dealer, right? But do u think that would possibly fix my problem?

I'm sure the manual switch will work. But I think I can only use it once before it has to be reset. O might be wrong

My top ECU went bad and the passenger seat would not move because of it. I replaced the ECU and everything was fine.
