My sister and I split the cost of one of these babies ($65.50 each total - it came from China so shipping was $30) to buy for our mom and stepdad. The total weight of this laptop is just 600 grams. It comes pre-loaded with windows CE 6.0, a very watered-down version of XP intended for use in low-requirement systems like calculators, cash registers, and the like. The operating system, and while I could have asked for x86 as opposed to ARM (Compatible software is scarce) so as to install other programs and Flash plugins for internet, it is absolutely perfect for web browsing, and is always quite responsive. As of now, these are not available in stores and can be bought from bulk sellers on ebay and independent sellers on the web.

Great little computer. Not all that powerful, but works perfectly for my mom, and she really loved it! :)

Does it have wireless internet capabilities or do you have to plug your cable modem into it?

Hi Mr. Son of Jedi :D

Having just returned from the CES show in Vegas, you'd be surprised - your
little Chinese laptop was EVERYWHERE (in the International section, not in
the mainstream laptop section). In pink, and leopard, and green and blue,
and bigger, and smaller. Probably 10 booths had some flavor of such a laptop
on show. All waiting for an American company to contract with them to
private label it for them.... so I expect to start seeing these 'micro netbooks'
start popping up a LOT in stores and online in the coming months....

Really? Wow. I was definitely expecting it to become big in America and probably skyrocket in price once the OS is swapped out for something more useful. That's why I was so glad I was able to find one now while it's still cheap. ;)

So? It seems to meet the needs of it's users perfectly well and illustrates the *huge* amount of compute power that simply goes "unused" in many cases......

Brings to mind a little cartoon I came across a while back :D

    Cheers,
    Ian

Having used this very computer myself, it's plenty fast for browsing web
sites, checking emails, and writing. Not even noticeably slow actually.

It's not for rendering James Cameron films

Hold on a sec, are you the OP's stepdad? He ("Son of Jedi") said he was buying one for his mom and stepdad and you're "Jedi" and you say you used one...:/

LOL he's my (biological) Dad and fellow geek friend. I gave the computer to my mom and stepdad before we left to visit in Tacoma so they could use it there, and we showed it to him because it's the first REAL cheap computer on the market and he wanted to see the interface and design.

Edit: He also saw a bunch of them at C.E.S. in Las Vegas.

Looks ok. This stuff is getting cheaper all the time. Still, I don't like the buy things from China.

You are aware that virtually ALL computers come from either China or Taiwan, right?
And virtually ALL electronics in your home (with the exception of LG, Samsung, KTV,
and others from Korea). Check the labels on your motherboard.... you might
be surprised that your HP or Dell are NOT made in Texas :D

US doesn't make computers. Not for quite some time. Like the 70s....
