The good news is that the new battery pack apparently weighs the same as a conventional 12-volt battery. If this is true, the new 911 should have the torque off the line to run with the latest EVs without sacrificing top end performance. Overall weight is up slightly, but nowhere near the obesity sweeping the car industry.

Am I happy about the demise of real gauges? No...but the eighth generation (!) 911 really shares only a model designation and roofline with earlier generations anyway, so those of us into the classic car experience are probably already in the G-body/964/993 market.

This feels like a great performance configuration, though. If I had to buy a modern GT car, the 992.2 under warranty would be very tempting.

With the electric motor incorporated into the PDK transmission and the other tech, it's going to be interesting how the reliability fares as the cars pass end of warranty.

GTS are always the least bang for the buck because for 20-30k more you're into GT3 territory. But maybe not, since Porsche people love paying ADMs to get the latest and shiniest... Never understood that mentality (and I had a 991.2 GT3 manual)

It is a complicated setup. Kind of like every modern car… For a keep-it-forever car I’d look for something air-cooled, but this would be something to lease and drive daily. Conceptually, I like the absence of belts for the a/c and the electric turbocharger. But the mandatory rear wheel steering and other systems weren’t on my wish list.

I just went through the configurator. I didn't see any option for a manual transmission. :(

From what I read the T-hybrid drivetrain uses the new electronic PDK. The base 992 retains the non-hybrid flat six, so I’d imagine the old gearbox could still function.

Word is that the base won't come with a manual in 2025. However, there is hope that a manual will be re-introduced for the Carrera S and the T in 2026.
