my dad's interested in buying one of these cars. but he doesn't know which he should buy. the car won't be used as an everydaycar and it's possible that he keeps the car for some months in the garage.

which of these would you take? what about the running costs of the cars? and how reliable are these? is the mondial much more expensive than the others concerning running costs?

To quote Whart, this is like, "comparing apples and Germany".

These three cars are so vastly different the only answer is to drive them and go with the one that makes you happy.

That said, the 993 should be the most reliable. The Ferrari will cost the most to maintain. The Jaguar will be the most expensive if you include depreciation.

    Porsches make excellent daily drivers.

fwiw, the Mondial is the least desirable Ferrari in recent years and the 993 is the most desirable NA 911 in recent years. JMO, of course...

If you're talking new xk8, depreciation will kill you. If it's used, just stay away from 97-98 Nikasil engines. Many potentially serious problems, although we do have a 98.

He will probably fit in the car, but don't expect to get in the rear seat. It's ridiculously small, and one can barely fit when the seat is full forward.
The driving is much more of a cruiser than a sports car. The sterring is over-assisted and brings little information. But comfort is great. And when the sunset light hits the big wooden dash on a little country road ... you capture the pure british car moment.:)

If he wants something sporty, stick to the 993. IMO.

if we buy a jag, we will buy a used one. depreciation does not matter because we will keep this car for a longer period of time. and so prices will drop anyway.

the point, why he wants the jag is, that we now have a porsche 964, which is a very nice car, and so the 993 does not make much sense in his eyes. he wants something different. the prices at the moment are quite well in austria and germany, round 30000-40000 Euro.

my only concern is the space (for my dad) in this car, because i heard many different opinions about it. and he never had the chance to sit in something like this. but if this helps you: he fits into a 328, 348, 360, mondial, every porsche, but not into a morgan aero 8.

    btw: this is my dad
