I had one. stellar track car. old school...no TC, PASM, SPASM, etc etc.

a bit intense for street driving, at least on a regular/daily basis.

    why? looking at buying?

I had one which I gutted over time and turned into a full-on track car. I then bought another one as a semi daily driver. Awesome car.

I haven't spent much time at all in 997 GT3's but I'd say the 997 is more refined and less edgy, which may or may not appeal to you. The 996 motor is fantastic. Its tolerable to drive around town with a passenger however, once the revs climb you won't be able to carry on a conversation! The only real every day issue is scraping curbs/speed bumps - it sits quite low.

IMO its got to be one of the best used car values out there.

Is there anything specific you'd like to know?

My Cousin had one and it was too harsh for him on the street. He ended up trading it in for a 355 Spyder.

I had one for seven years.

There was no better Porsche 911 for me than it. It could not do wrong. I tracked the living daylights out of it, nothing could come close to it (except a cup car). I scored 296 points out of 300 at two Porsche Parade concours too. It could do it all. Like said above, no electronic nannies, no sunroof, no waiting. It was the ultimate 911 for me. 2970 lbs & track ready.

I installed Euro seats (uncomfortable but lite), I had the PCCB brakes, I installed the RS air ram, cup front splitter, I tuned the ECU for the Europipe exhaust (great sounds) custom aligned it, bolted on sticky rubber and went hunting for GTR, Z06, turbo 911's, Viper, 997 GT3RS, F430, racecar 911's - it did not matter. The 996 GT3 & I schooled them all.

    Great car.

    I w h o l e h e a t e d l y say - go & find one young man. And enjoy the awesomeness.
