My buddy is deciding between the two. Has his name and deposit on both cars. He is more into overall performance rather than just horse power. But dollar for dollar what do you think is a better buy.

none of us have driven them of course, but based on the 996 data, i'd pick the GT3 every day of the week and twice on sunday. it's a real sports car (or at least as close as you can get from p these days).

Ok, the current 996tt has 420 hp, and it runs with the BEST cars in the world easily. The 997 GT3 is 415 (NA, almost the same as 996tt... negligable difference) AND redlines at 8400 rpm! It is also going to be more nimble than the 997tt. Although the 997tt will be faster than the GT3, speed is not everything. Once you hit a certain level, such as the 996tt's accelleration, it's the handleing that will set the car apart. Because of that, I'd go with the GT3.

If he wants a track beast... the GT3.... If he wants a daily driver... the 997TT.

I had a 996 GT2 which was the king of that heap, and frankly, the turbo lag made me nuts. Lot's o' fun, but not overall as well balanced as the normally aspirated cars in performance- more jekyll and hyde. And, while that might be fun to scare the piss out of yourself, I'd be betting a real sports car nut could go for the GT3. MY 2 Scheckelrinos. As to the better buy, go Subaru.

Can't beat a turbo for a daily driver. The Gt3 is a much more focused, track-ready car and the better drive, IMHO.

gt3 will put the biggest smile on your face of the two. has better resale value as well. much more rewarding experience. some of the drawbacks of the 996 gt3 was the ride, which was considered stiff and usuable for road conditions. apparently with PASM technology, the GT3 is a phenomenal road and track car. forget about what everyone says about the turbo's everyday useability....what are you buying a $125k sportscar to drive your grandma around? GT3 all the way and you'll thank me later!

Is he going to go to the track, or out to find twisty back roads? If so...GT3.

    If not, 997tt.

Tell your friend to go hang out at 6speedonline.com and ask lots of questions.

    Both winners...

Need a small seat for the kiddies? Go for the TT...

Want one of the worlds best sports/track car? GT3.

My ego would say GT3 but the reality of my needs would be chosing TT..

Meanwhile who buys any sports car with logic?

    GT3

Reports on the 997TT claim that new technology from the diesel world drastically reduces turbo lag. Only time will tell if it's true. That said, the GT3 is the choice for boy racers and track stars, the TT for effortless power and luxury.

If you're a daily driver go for the Turbo.
If you're a track guy go for the GT3.
If you're both go for the GT2.

one question -does the GT3 come with optional air conditioning? That would make the decision easier to pick the GT3 over the TT

On the 997 GT3 aircon comes as standard. One of the reasons that weight has increased over the 996 GT3.

GT3 hands down, for me anyway. 8400rpm and NA beat out a turbo anything in my book. Not to mention I think it looks MUCH better than the Turbo and is a better bargain to boot. Resale is in favor of the GT3 I'm sure as well. If I was in the market for a $115k Porsche, the GT3 would be it! In reality though, my $115k will always be headed to a used F car over a new P.

GT3's were putting the smackdown on the competion in Lemans GT2 class, now they have to run with restrictors. GT3 rules period.. theres nothing for $115K that even comes close in terms of performance and reliability.

Absolutely right all comments above. It is the purest driving experience to date of any driver's car-a focused masterpiece of pure excitement.

I'll definitely get one if I had the cash even though I don't necessarily need to get a brand new one.

GT3. Better driving experience, and the foglights on the front of the Turbo ruin the whole car for me.

The GT3 will have PASM (Porsche Active Stability Management) which lets you adjust the suspension settings between firm for better handling (i.e. teeth cracking) and normal, for street driving. I have PASM on my 997 and it's great. I've been considering the 997 Turbo, but haven't pulled the trigger. There's clearly no lack of supply of these things. I'm thinking of waiting on the GT3

GT3 in my books all the way...the NA motor sounds incredible.
