One thing I learned so Far after a few jap cars & german cars is:

ALL CARS LOSE VALUE, don't buy a car if you don't want to lose money, buy it because you like the way it looks, how you think it makes your dlck look bigger, smells, sounds, drives, and Drive the CrAp out of it!

whats the porsche claimed # for 997? i dont know but let me guess, 4.6 0-60? and maybe 13.1 in 1/4 mile? i believe turbo does that in 4 sec flat and low 12's. so the 997 is identical to 355 while turbo is to 360CS. that's why i said what i said. now if my # is wrong, feel free to point out :) remember we are not doing car talking like general public, to who the few tenth sec does not mean match. i will assume(which u might disagree), by the end of the 1/4m strip, the turbo will put 8 car length on the 997S, that is ALOT in performance.

now as for daily driving comfort, i will let u drive my M3 in NYC next time, and i will bet you a bottle of good wine that you will say a GT2 rides more comfortable.

I hear you on the straight line dragstrip figures and the Turbo does have a leg up on HP compared to the 997, but the bottom line is driveability. The 997 is a much more enjoyable car to drive (I'm talking stock form here for the 996TT) daily and once you have a chance to spend some time in it you will see that it is not only a blast to drive hard (like we do), but also a blast to drive daily from a comfort and driveability standpoint. It's fast as heck, comfortable, reliable, and full of all the techo goodies of late. It's interior is much more refined than the 996 and the overall feeling and sound of the 997 brings back memories of what Porsche was...remember the melody of an aircooled 911 coming down the road? You could hear it coming without opening your eyes and know right off the bat that it was a 911. Now the 996's sound like Hondas...no offense T. ;-)

As for comfort, I would imagine that you are wearing 19's on your M3 and it may very well be lowered as well (so is my Audi). With that said, you may have a pretty rough ride in the M3, but it is not in stock form and I would bet that the GT2 is still a rougher ride and less comfortable than your M3 in "city" driving. Try and get a GT2 into a parking garage or even up a driveway...good luck and better have a fund ready to replace that front valence. :)

i will not argue any of that, never disagreed with that.
i saw the 997 with u at jack daniel premier, i test drove here on LI later on. i will admit faster than anyone that its MUCH BETTER looking car IN AND OUT than the 996.

the disagreement here is, i dont think the performace is close to TT as u stated. sure everyone has a different definition of "close", so if in the sense that 997S is clsoe to TT, i will firmly say F355 is close to a CS.

Fair enough. I'll do some diligence on my end and see if I can come up with some stats or editoral on the subject. If not, then we'll just have to take it to the strip and run for slips my man! All we need now is a 996TT and a 997S... ;-)

    it's closer between a 996TT / 997S vs a F355 / 360 CS.

    How's About that Sukka! :D

    per porsche official site, 0-62(100kmph), 996TT 4.2s, 997S 4.6s.
    per ferrari official site, 0-62(100kmph), CS 4.1S, F355 4.6s.

    see it is closer :D

but no one cares about 0-60mph or 0-100, the 1/4 mile results from Road & Track are 12.4 seconds for the 996TT and 12.8 seconds for the 997S.

1/4 mile from the ferrari website has the 355 at 12.9 seconds (which is hard to believe :D) and the CS at 12.1 seconds

Incidentally in this month of road & track a 997 S did 0-60 mph in 4.4 second!

if u wanna compare, u do r&t to r&t, or official site to official site. not r&t to official site.
i do not believe for a second that under same condiotion the same R&T test driver can only do 0.4s faster in a turbo vs. 997S on 1/4m strip.

YOu guys kill me. I drive my GT2 and my M3 cabrio (smg) to the city; my office is in Times Sq. I can make unbelievable time in the GT2, when the road is open, ie at 5.30 in the morning. Otherwise, crawling in traffic is just no fun, but that's true in any car, unless you are in the backseat of a Maybach with with a sexual target of opportunity. Oh, yeah, and i agree, i get pretty hammered in the M3, too. It's no softy when it comes to potholes. YOu are right about the valence, though. I always keep a spare.

Hey William, I was wondering when you would join the discussion! ;-)

You actually take the GT2 into the city during the week?! I hear ya on the 5:30am thing and I'm sure it's quite a drive, but the way home must be a b!tch! I would think especially with the racing seats you have in it and the Fabspeed pipes.

GT2 does make a hellofa commuter car, though. No matter how hard the aggressive ******* to your side tries to close the box, they are never prepared for a car that can go that quick during the morning commute. Only drawback is that the car attracts racer wanna-bes like a giant magnet; i've got guys in ford fokkus climbing up my ass, and the whipped looking middle management types in their company cars trying to prove to me that i shoulda bought a Taurus. But, its all in good fun. Only part i hate is the GW bridge ramp from the Pallisades; 8 lanes converge into 2, and no one is a gentleman, even the women.

ugh no, the porsche # are from R&T, ferrari # are not. if u wanna compare, use # for all cars from R&T, or use # for all cars from its own manufacture site, that's what i meant.

sorry i got no mag, i do not read these **** on toilet and bench racing it :D
