I stopped by the Porsche dealer today. Didn't know the Turbo had rear seats. Same room as what's in the Carrera? Are there any options for the rear seat in the GT3, I know it normally doesn't have them. For a Porsche to make sense for me I would need back seats to also serve as a baby hauler like the GranSport.

    Yes.

Only good for kids and (very) small adults.

    I don't think so.

    Are you selling your GranSport?

    Yes same as in Carrera.

No option from porsche to have rear seats in a GT3 or GT2. Not sure how legal it would be to have those retrofitted.

I wouldn't sell the GranSport. It is so much car and unique, you see 30-50 Porsches and Mercedes for every Maserati you see out and about. I absolutely love the combination of performance, back seats, and looks. Car worth much more to me than I could sell it for.

I'm a GT3 kind of guy, but needing back seats might force a Carrera S or for a little more pow factor the Turbo. The Carrera kinda looks plain.

For what it's worth, the Carrera S sounds very good with the factory sports exhaust.

The Turbo sounds like a hair drier, albeit a very fast one...

    Hi Rob.....

No option for rear seats in the GT3. Turbo and Carrera are the same measurements.

Waaaaay to expensive to retrofit knowing what interior trim parts cost for these cars......you'd have to find used parts, and even then, if I was a dealer or independant, I wouldn't do it just because of the liability reasons.

Porsche makes OEM child seats for their cars FWIW.

Get a C2S.......look for one with the OEM "powerkit" and 381 HP if it is a used car you are after. Or mod a used one. It is easy to get them up to GT3 power levels (415 HP) from the stock 355 HP in the "S" for less than $10K.

If it helps with your decision, there is NO headroom in the backseat of a 911. I'm 5' 6" and can't sit up straight in the backseat. They do make for decent storage though...

Rob, that was the major reason I got a 997 as a Daily Driver, so I can take the Wife and Daughter out in it. The back seat is perfect for little kids, but not anyone larger. I have a standard 08 Carrera 6 Speed Coupe and it is a great driver. However, saying that the 09-10 Carrera "S" with 385 HP is plenty fast and the PDK Transmission is fantastic. My Buddy works for Porsche N.A. and he told me there will be a Power Kit X51 coming out for the "S" sometime this year. Either way you can't go wrong with these cars, they are pretty Bullet Proof.

Will she need a car seat? I thought you needed one under 40 or 50 pounds.

most definitely yes, I think in Texas anyone under 5 ft. needs one. That includes many adults. :)

the GranSport holds 4 adults comfortably, so definitely does great with the child seat.

Get a 2005 Turbo S and you'll get both the X50 power kit and PCCB... :)

And get a cab and you've got instant headroom!

as said before rear space is the same in all 997's.
it would be no problem to fit the rear buckets to have rear seats. it's basically just a back support and a butt support.

gt's are only classified as 2 seaters in europe. not sure about the us....

your daughter will need earplugs too in the back of a gt3 :)

As far as I know, a few GT3s do exist in Germany with factory fitted rear-seats (obviously without the half roll-cage)
With their customisation branch, you can have roughly anything, for a price.

You also need the seat brackets with pivot points, seat belts, roller assemblies for the belts, different rear side walls and trim, new C pillars, seat belt inertia sensors, seat belt latch sensors and wiring harness for dash warning light, mounting brackets where applicable, as well as the necessary holes with the welded in body reinforcements done by the factory.........and I am sure that there is more stuff too. It would be no problem, I certainly agree, with all the right stuff installed to make it legal, which is the real problem in the US.

Porshe Exclusive will do it like gougoul said, at "their" price of course, on a new car order and with a 1-2 month delay in delivery.......

PCCB's not so good for the track. If S's were generation 2 or later they may be good for occational DE days. Streetwise yes it has quite the wow factor.

Is there any more headroom in the 997 than in the 996? I tried to sit on the back seats of 996T, but it was impossible. The only way for me to travel there, would be to lie down. Luckily, I've never needed to.

    oh, and I'm 5'10"
