Auto Zeitung, a german car magazine with good contacts to Porsche, claims in their latest issue (today) that the 997 Turbo gets 500 HP. 430 watch out !

I wonder if 50 extra bhp will help it depreciate even faster?

I'd hope so - it would be a touch off for Porsche to not be leading the HP wars of the Germans and Italians and the jump from 993 to 996 was not a particularly impressive one in power output - now they're just catching up.

Remember the GT3 was a faster car than the Ferrari with more horspower , when the 997TT and 997TTS are out all the soul and resale value of the 430 will be in the Porsches rear view mirror on the track . I think you need both !

Disagree on this since they went from a close to maxed out air-cooled to a water cooled with all kinds of upward potential. At the time of introduction, the 400 hp 360 was the target, so 415 worked great.

I keep hearing the 997 hp output will be 460-480 hp....which would still take it past the 430 on a straightaway or road course.

good points....a porsche 996 tt will blow the doors off of my 360 spider ...also the 997S i have driven was faster than the 360s i have driven...it seems porsche hp numbers are very conservative and they always perform better than their hp and weight would suggest...so 500 hp on the new tt would be seriously fast.....

It has to have 500 just to keep up with the 430 and the Gallardo, and dare I say the Ford GT and the Z06. They also need the extra HPs and TQs to more clearly separate it from the C4S.

500HP or so is the entry fee these days.

It will be as all-around solid as the last TT, and definitely more handsome.

Having said that, I'll never buy one.

Nothing new, the same old paradigm will continue.

If you want a fast and fun car that is drop dead gorgeous and makes the best noises plus is ultra exotic and exclusive then you buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

If you want the FASTEST car that will be a track weapon and have potential to actually race it plus will be a great street car, look good and be rock solid but will not be "exotic" or particularly rare then you buy a Porsche.

The above has been the reality for the past 30+ years. My suggestion is to own each.

terry, you are spot on...like it or not!

turbo porsches are THE pit bulls of the street and the thoroughbreds of the track...it will likely always be that way!

    i own both.

The 996 GT2's sold so poorly, I wonder if they're going to continue it?

I just hope they don't butcher the RS badge.

Porsche hasn't been having a lot of luck in the hypercar market. GT2s tanked, and the C-GT was dramatically overproduced. Much like the guys who lost their shirts on 996TTs when they were new and then porsche cranked out about 100k more.

I have to say the more I look at the 997, the more I think Porsche got spot on with that car. I was at the Dealer yesterday and there was a 997 C4S, wow those hips on that car just make it perfect.

your GT2 wasn't scary, so a bit more power would be welcome. :D

Are you planning on getting a 997 of some sort (GT2/3)?

I doubt that a base 997 turbo will have 500 hp, Porsche doesn't make their previous models obsolete by leap frogging them with tons of hp. From what I've read on porsche boards expect the base 997 tt to have around 450 hp and any S vairation or X 50 model to be equipped with 500 + hp.

I ve seen some infos from english and german web sites.

Porsche will improve the new transmission (something like dsg i guess) and 4wd system
The new turbo will be 450 hp 0-100 4.0 seconds and top speed about 191 mph 307km/h.
Same as 996 Turbo S specifications not sure mid acceleretions may be better.

But i really guess the new tiptronic will be about 4.5 sec 303km/h. Cauz at 996 Turbo manual 4.2sec 305km/h- Tiptronic 4.9sec 298kmh
    Not so good as F1

All rumors but dont think porsche will do 500 hp.
30-35 hp gain is porsches strategy
So need to be cautious for F430 guys hehehehehe

Whatever actual horsepower PAG "rates" it at, you can bet money that it will pull another 10% over the figure quoted in the magazine you are reading.

    I've heard a rating in the 490's.........
