"Porsche released technical information and the first official photos of the sixth-generation 911 Turbo. Without a doubt, this looks to be the best turbocharged production machine that the legendary manufacturer has ever assembled.

Power is derived from a twin-turbo 3.6-liter boxer engine that makes a whopping 480 bhp at 6000 rpm and a maximum 457 lb.-ft. of torque in a broad powerband spectrum from 1950 all the way up to 5000 rpm. A Sport Chrono Package (optional) allows for 10 seconds of additional boost that can bring peak torque up to a remarkable 502 lb.-ft.

New tech features include a completely revamped all-wheel-drive system (said to be one of the lightest in the industry) with reworked traction control; larger (nearly 14-in.) brake discs front and rear and an available ceramic composite braking system for even more impressive braking, with even larger rotors (nearly 15-in.) up front.

Perhaps the most impressive new development is a variable turbine geometry system that can adjust the pitch of the turbo’s blades for optimum exhaust flow over the impeller that, according to Porsche, improves acceleration and powerband flexibility. With this development, the 911 Turbo becomes the first turbocharged gasoline-burning engine that makes use of this technology, which is more common in diesel engines (the low-volume but well-received diesel-powered Jeep Liberty has a variable turbine system).

Look for the all-new 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo on showroom floors this summer with a base price of $122,900 and a full report in the pages of Road & Track very soon.

Yes, the turn signals and probably parking lights, too. The 996 had them integrated with the low/high beams, but now the two are separated like the 993 and previous gens.

Coincidentally, I just read one of my car mags which noted a base price of $119K on a 996 TT, putting this only a remarkably 3.3% higher.
