Is there DOT and EPA paperwork proving this car is US Legal? Is it California legal? Will it have a valid US DMV title?
Ex-Swaters 9999 is going across the block at RM right now... http://www.rmauctions.com/LiveVideo.cfm?SaleCode=AZ11 $400k Now $600K
Congrats to your uncle! The other F50 sold for more with more miles : F50 #103922 at Gooding sells for 740.000USD plus commission. Is that because #99999 isnt registered in the US yet?
Thanks, it is going to an owner who will appreciate it and most likely will keep it for a very long time, as he has his other Ferraris.
ugh. That's a pretty ridiculous statement Joe and just more BS perpetuating that myth. The car is documented from day one by Ferrari themselves and also Classiche Certified so you make no sense. But you being a car dealer with an F-50 for sale, I think I understand your motive.
I completely understand how you feel, having been connected with this car. But I don't know how else to explain how an F50 with factory-related interesting provenance and special chassis number brings significantly less than another which is simply a production car with no significant history. The market speaks. No hard feelings OK? FWIW I no longer have an F50 for sale.
No hard feelings for sure. I have no interest in the car other than looking out for its owner's best interest. He was a very good man. I just believe that you and others have created and perpetuated the "stories" that most likely diminished the value on this car. It would have been interesting to see how you would have approached things if you had been asked to represent the car. Also, as much as people love to brag of low mileage, on a car like this it is not always a plus. That probably also contributed to its value. It would have for me.
Thanks for taking it as it is. The questions to its provenance speak for themselves, as discussed in this thread, and if I was asked to represent it I would highlight them for what they are, as I have done in some instances with car's whose provenance is not clear.
The Swaters history is a definite plus, given his close association & friendship with Enzo Ferrari. In fact, this point alone ought to have brought the car at a par at the very least with other F50s in the market, and the fact that the car sold at the level that it did suggests that all was not clear. Yet still, a fantastic F50 with a very cool chassis number. I once personally owned Swaters' 288 GTO and I thought that part of its history was fantastic. The rest of its history had no questions though.
Per Ferrari/Classiche, there's just one 99999 F50. This one. This car is also the factory F50 show car, per factory documents, among which also state that the car was delivered "new" to a fellow named Jacques Swaters (the Garage Francorchamps one) upon completion of its factory tour. It also has under 1K miles. Though this one may possibly be driven without the standard mileage "penalty" due to its provenance. Two different rooms. Four different bidders. Varying levels of research (and importance thereof?). It's a pretty recent car. Maybe it's just not "ripe" yet? Yoda's uncle did okay.
Next, I imagine you'll want the door lock cylinder number to identify which 99999 it is... Carbon, check your FaceBook page
If I may interject with some facts. a. There is and always has been only one F50-99999 b. The first 3 prototype were Mondial 95592 with an F130 engine/gearbox bolted in the back; 1993 s/n98170 cobbled up from an F40 and wearing MO2268; and 1994 s/n99999 with a disguised body and wearing MO2112. c. 99999 was the client 'show & tell' and photoshoot car throughout 1994 wearing MO2112. d. 99999 appeared at its unveiling in March95, Geneva, Frankfurt & Tokio shows and more 'ride & drives' for clients. e. 99999 was refreshed in 1996 and was the Galleria car until 1998 (after F50 production ended) when it went - as Mr Ferrari had promised - to Jacques Swaters. f. 99999 was registered in Guernsey and wore 17404 in Swaters' gallery and to Spa in 2000. g. 99999 is fully compliant and the new owner has the Notice of Compliance h. 99999 was exercised just yesterday. There are certain differences between 99999 and production F50s to be sure. Just think of the butts who sat in those seats! Thank you Mr John Mushman
How do you explain two F50s with the same serial number (99999) being spotted at the same time in the same place?
That never happened. If it did, please provide photographic proof rather than more message board chatter.
