Greetings all ! Going to review a 2003 F360 Spider for 90k The car has 6,000 miles on it and the only service records are 2 oil changes over the past 8 years. It’s a manual 6 speed, 2 owners. I plan on participating in 6 or 8 track days this summer, plus enjoying summer driving with the top down, I’d say about 4k to 5k miles this year. The evident issues would be belts and fluid service that needs to be executed, plus a solid PPI, I’m guessing about $5,000 ? Should I be alarmed with a garage queen like this? Anything particular I should be looking for? Thanks! P.S. After all the reading here about the F1 transmission…. Think I’ll avoid that (and yes this will be my first F-Car)
what color is it? any pics you could post? I think that given that everything else is in good order and looks pristine, $90K sounds like a good deal
Having had only two oil changes done over an eight year life (regardless of mileage)is "technically" abuse and might reflect on other areas of prior ownership. Your previous owners have been taking quite a risk! PPI by independent expert. Belts and tensioner bearings would need doing for sure, particularly if you're going to track her. Tyres quite likely required as it could well still be on original given the low mileage. Find out whether or not she's pre or post exhaust timing variator campaign and check if it's been done (I suspect it would have the revised specification in but worth checking). Run? I wouldn't say so, a car used a little more frequently might be a slightly more desirable but I think you can probably overcome the neglect and find yourself in possession of a nice low mileage car.
sounds like a sweet car with low miles, like others have noted, need tires if not been replaced, all fluids, new timing belts, maybe a battery.good luck with the process
Rick- Just because the owner does not have records, does not mean maintenance was not performed. But you have to assume it was not done unless you can track down where and when maintenance was performed. Sounds like a nice car and $5K should bring everything up to date. Taz Terry Phillips
Most track day events do not allow convertibles. Unless it's an FCA event. Just something to be aware of. Check with each organization you're interested in to see what their rules are. The 360 has an integrated roll bar, but it may not be substantial enough for some groups, like PCA or BMWCCA. Or, the rollbar may not be high enough to "clear" your helmet. some track groups use the "broomstick" rule, where they sit you in the car, with helmet on, and there has to be at least one "broomstick" width extra clearance between the top of your helmet and the roll bar. Being short helps! Broomstick rule also applies to your instructor, so don't pick Yao Ming.
I agree with the others. $5k should bring it up to speed nicely. It's low miles but not ultra low. It should be ok. It's a shame that this car has been driven about 60-70 miles per month since new. What a waste.
I've been told thats it for service . . . wish there was more Thanks for the "Heads Up" I've been running with a private group (driving a Lotus Elise) but I will check to see if there is an issue. In the midwest we garage our cars for about 6 months a year, snow & salt on the roads. Maybe I should move south - I'm not getting any younger. Thanks again for the advice - "I'm like'n this F-Chat" what a GREAT forum !
