Look at the panels. Why would they do this unless it was going to move? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I went back and looked at all of the other 488 photos, because I honestly hadn't noticed that. You may be right! I also looked at 455 photos of the same area, where there are far more compound curves, and it doesn't require a second body panel. Hmmmmm..... Could it only have to do with the fact that there's obviously some kind of aero-scoop below the Ferrari badge under the rear glass? We'll find out, soon!
It is not Ferrari's practice to add free standing or raising spoiler at the rear , in order not to jeopardize the profile of the car . Other manufacturers may think otherwise though .
It will have active aero in the rear. From Ferrari's press release: Aerodynamics Several innovative elements were specifically developed to do so, not least a double front spoiler, base bleed side intakes and, at the rear, active aerodynamics coupled with a blown spoiler. The aerodynamic underbody, which incorporates vortex generators, is highly sophisticated, too.
Agreed. Good thinking to question it- but those panels have to have gaps somewhere. The active aero I believe will be in the lower Venturi area.
Without this seem gap, where would they stop the rear "quarter panel" (for lack of a better descriptor)? Having the left and right rear quarters as a single piece makes no sense, would cost a fortune, and if there is damage to one side, you're replacing the entire thing, plus the manufacturing of such a piece not using carbon fiber would be a nightmare. Having the left and right seem gap at the midline would look weird. So putting the seem in this position looks good esthetically and is also functional in the removal of the body panels for access to the internals. The body panels have to stop somewhere....
That "pitch" adjustment actually just says "PIT" which I think is the Pit Speed feature. Cruise control. Here's a large, high resolution picture: http://image.motortrend.com/f/wot/1502_ferrari_488_gtb_bringing_660_turbocharged_ponies_to_geneva/86997507/ferrari-488-gtb-interior-02.jpg However, that car does look like it has some sort of movable spoiler, especially when looking at it from the rear: Image Unavailable, Please Login
See under the Ferrari symbol. The the dark area, the shadow. Thats a hole that goes all the way to the rear window. Air flows over the top of the car and underneath that panel and air exists there, under the Ferrari symbol. This is meant to be a spoiler. So if you left your phone(not that you would) on the rear glass. It would just slide through. The front section is also designed to create down force too.
That pitch thing looks like cruise control "the pit button". maybe they designed it like that so it be easier to make it into a spider (488 GTS). just my 2 cent
From hi-res photo, not really that much different than my 458. Seems like the mirror adjustment control is gone, or at least moved...
^^ This. Correct Just walked outside and looked at 458 Italia... same gaps, same location, NOT active areo rear spoiler unfortunately. S Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
