    Hi
As KershIrl Im also new on her, from Stockholm Sweden, and I have a similar question to you all.
After almost 20 year of waiting its finally time to get my very first F-car.
Im looking for someting from the early 90's, a 512 TR or a 348.
So what I really want to know, should I go for a 512 or a 348? The price for a 512 is about 80% higher. I like the look of the 512 far more than the 348, but is i worth it? Please give me some good reasons for buying the 512, or reasons for not doing it.

    Welcome to the site.

Buying the 512...looks and awesome power. Wonderous sound.

Not buying the 512, cost of entry and maintaince. Also they lack ABS (if you care for that). They are also very wide.

For 348, cheaper to buy, a little less to maintain, available in softtops and GTS versions.

Odd question it may seem, but important none the less, do you fit in both of them?

Only 94, which are at the extreme end of the price spectrum for 512s (are they close to M's over in europe? Even 94s are still about 20-35k cheaper here then Ms)

    Im 6' & 95 lbs so I hope I'll fit :)
The 512 tr are in the range of 85-100k in Europe. If you want a M you must add another 15-20K. But the M' seems to be hard to get.

Maybe this is the wrong part of the forum for my next question. I could get a early 355 for the same money (85-100k), is that even a better buy?

Depends what you like. The 355 is more 'user friendly' then the 512. Personally I love the dash design and 6spd of the 355, but overall, I feel the 512 is a better car.

355 favors: Power steering, making city driving much easier (and less fun :))

The power of the 512TR engine is WAY beyond the 348, its truly addictive

I much prefer the styling of the 512TR

Also the 512TR is better quality as a new Pres entered between those 2 cars & the 512TR was his 1st car where he concentrated on building a higher quality product

    Welcome to the site!

If you can afford it, 512TR is probably better buy, as it was produced in smaller qty and holding the value well. The power of V12 is something you cannot ignore. You preferring 512TR is the very good reason to buy this car, IMO.

Auraptor/Omar's advise is pretty much the same as mine. I think if money is not object, you should buy what you really want, otherwise, you may end up buying whichever a car in few years.

Searching to buy Ferrari is also fun part, so enjoy!

    Dear Comrade Steve M8,

I agree wholeheartedly. The gentleman should go for the 512TR or F512M. The 348 whilst very nice, is one very different animal to the flat 12 engined monster. I suggest that the respondent should drive both cars and then make his decision - which almost certainly will be for the 512TR or F512M

    I'm not at Monterey!

While I represent for my 348, I will say go for the 512TR! Maybe I say that because that's the car I hope to upgrade to... :)

I found myself at exactly the same decision point and I agree with those suggesting that the comparison is more like the 355 than the 348. I also looked at the 456 and earlier bargain TRs. for me the 512 wins hands down. Best is the 93 and 94 which came with ABS but they are almost as hard to find as the limited production ~275 or so, M series. I love my 92, take it to the track every couple of months to restore my faith in paying ransom money for gas.

If you have to go with the 348, you got to get it in BLACK....That color just gives that car a whole different appearance.

My choice of the two is the 512 hands down. The torque on that car alone will have you convinced.

    Happy hunting.

Thank You ALL for all nice answers.
About my weight, I missed a leading 1 :) (conversions from kg to lbs is not always easy).
Auraraptor, You said that teh TR is very wide, is that a something negative ?
The specs in Europe says 197,6 cm, do You kwow if that includes the mirrors or not?

Not really that much, just makes small streets harder (PAY MORE ATTENTION :))

Parking is more if you have a single door garage. Just measure your garage opening and see if it will fit easily with no issues. I only have 2 inches to work with and the approach is a turn, making it a little harder then I hoped for, but still manageable.

The tr/512 width is deceiving because it is wider in the rear than in the front. You do not notice this in the autoroute but in town it means that you have to leave additional romm beind you whenever you are negotiaiting tight areas like garages. On the track you can almost ignore the bulk of the car and other than the slowish steering (to compensate for not being powered) it is quite easy to thread in traffic. You have to remember that the car has nearly 30 cms of width to the left of your eye as you drive whereas most others have less than half this amount.

512TR in Thailand cost about twice more than 348 of similar years, but I still went for the TR. I must say it was the right choice.

This is not a fair comparison as they are very different in price range and avaliability....

If you can afford it, then go for the TR.
