A few weeks back, I listed my car on ferrariads asking $185k - it's still advertised here, and will continue to be, though after this post I may need to lower my price a bit.

My car is a 2008 OTO, pozzi over cuoio w/blu scuro dash and Daytona seat inserts. I think it's beautiful. 14,800 miles, 15,000 mile service just performed, etc etc. Originally owned by Enzo himself. Autographed by Enzo? Approved by Enzo?

    So .. what's it worth?

I started the eBay auction with a "buy it now" price of $185k and a reserve of 172.5k. Almost immediately, the car was bid up to $500. Not an exciting start, but a bid nonetheless.

Over the next seven days I had intelligent questions from several bidders, and bidding rose to $155k with a couple days left. At the 24 hour to go mark, I lowered the buy it now to $172.5, and the reserve to $167.5; I reduced the pricing because, in addition to having movie star good looks, I also am a shrewd auctioneer.

In the final minutes, a new bidder appeared and was quickly outbid by one of his predecessors. Thanks to my well timed pricing adjustments, last minute bidding took the car from $155k all the way up to $158.1k, where it stopped, after 29 bids.

Two of the prospective buyers with whom I spoke are collectors of 50s and 60s cars; one owns a Daytona spider, among many other things. Interesting, nice people, with great taste in cars and absolutely no interest in my 612 at my bottom line price of $167,500.

Thought this auction story might be a useful addition to the never ending discussion of markets for various Ferrari models. I suspect I could sell my car in the low $160s, but I'll never know. I think I may just keep the car, unless the right buyer comes along, the man who just has to have Enzo's personal 612.

OK, I'll bite. "Enzo's personal 612". Are you talking about Enzo Angiolini?

No, I'm representing the car as Enzo Ferrari's personal transport; when you've priced too high, it's time to resort to outrageous lies.

    But any Enzo might help!

Edit - actually, I'm really starting to think about keeping it, at least until the 612 successor is out.

Also thought about trading it towards a 599 I'd strip and convert to a track car.

A lot of weight could be taken out, think about it. Air bags, radio/nav, stock seats, a/c, whatever sound deadening material there is, etc etc. I have been thinking about such a project for a while now. Just those basic, relatively easy changes would transform the car.

Please do NOT encourage me.* I have too many projects.

*Unless you know of a cheap 599. Interior cosmetics unimportant!

Mine is the 06 612 on e-bay. I had offers on here at 130 maybe I could have got them to 135.

Reserve is 137.5 and BIN 140

Not even sure why I am selling it :(

The only cars I feel are worthy of the garage space is 16M or Carrera GT. My guess is my wife would hate both like she does my 9 foot chopper that has not been ridden in over a year!

    Good Luck with the sale!

    Nope

Interesting ... never thought about the F40

    CGT is running 230 - 325

    F40 is running?

Mileage is not much of a concern

I would say a US F40 will start at $350k for a high mileage car.

It would be a very interesting project. As you said, a lot of weight to shed would be enough to make it a great track car as the engine, gearbox, breaks and chassis are amazing.

    Go for it!!

    Please share more info

I hate technology gadgets in a car - which is why I like the CGT. Sensory overload takes away the driving experience. My favorite car to take out is by far the 69Z28.

cgt is a video game. f40 is a religious experience....wldnt necessarily want to take either one to a resturant cuz u and ur wife will look like a jackass getting out of them.

values...im not going to tell anyone what they shld pay but if i were looking to today id be budgeting 340 to 360K for the CGT that id want and 525 for 575 for the f40 that id want.

if u dont mind alot of miles and incomplete histories u can def find the cars for lower.

The CGT would be a keeper for life. I would sit next to a Healey and the Camaro never to be sold. The ass part does concern me as the 612 is pushing it but acceptable at the office and out on the town.

I like histories but believe these cars should be driven. These cars will not wear out especially the Porsche even at 100k of travel.

I have been following the results of your 612 , and there are two factors why your car has not gotten close to your price 1) to many miles compared to other cars for sale and 2) no hgtc package which to me was a major factor when i purchased my 2008 612 oto a month ago with 800 miles that i paid $219k and felt i got a good deal on car that was like brand new with $136k off the original window of $355k . Being in the exotic car buisness i think $160k is the real price for your car , so just hang in there and you will get $160k for your , if not just keep it for anything less than that , because the oto is a great car compared to the non oto cars , and the new transmission alone makes it a bargain for $160k

Tell me what your car has that mine doesn't, thanks to the HGTC package - I dare you. No one here - no one - has explained that yet.

I agree with you on the miles, of course. A modern US Ferrari with 14000 miles might as well be a parts car, that's just the way it is.

The biggest problem with my sales efforts is that I don't really care whether I sell the car. If I did, I'd just mark it down untill it sells.

Your reaction that the package is a big deal is probably something other buyers share, though IMO it makes little sense. My car has 20" rims and the sporty exhaust option. The exhaust is all about sound, and I've seen no power claims for the tubi - in fact, Ferrari itself calls the HGTC package a "styling" package." So, if I paint the rear grilles silver and add the factory rear roll bar, I have HGTC!

Impressions are everything, though. If I decide to remarket the car, I'll make the roll bar change and call it upgraded to HGTC.

A small digression-- I think it's funny that exhausts are all about sound. When I was a teenager (not that long ago, in the scheme of things), changing the exhaust was all about getting more power, and sound was a side benefit. Anyone who cited sound as a reason for changing their exhaust would have been made fun of, mercilessly.

Or maybe it's just the people I hung out with...

Now people are willing to lose power to get better sound.
