Every so often dust from the Sahara Desert is pulled into the upper atmosphere and makes its way either to the Caribbean or Europe, depending on the weather at hand.

Yesterday, we got a nice dose…imagine thousands of square miles covered in iron rich quartz dust. Cars and roads will be dirty for days if not a week or two. A great reminder that there is only one atmosphere.

Was this caused by one of the winds which Maserati uses for its naming? I'm assuming you're in France as a result.

This week is something of a freak, rather than the regular weather phenomena like the Khamsin (or Scirocco, as VW used, another name for the same phenomenon). There's an anticyclone over Eastern Europe and low pressure stuck in the Atlantic which has led to a southerly airstream blowing up from North Africa over France, the Alps, and even up to Germany, Ireland and the UK. I am currently in northern Scotland and the air is orange with Saharan dust. It's also freakishly warm across Europe. Great weather for driving Ferraris but probably not so good for our paintwork.
