I have read most of the A/C threads and did not see one posted specifically regarding the clutch on the A/C when doing the York to Sanden conversion. I was curious about the Retroair conversion and the part where they specifically talked about the "Mandatory Reverse Rotation Clutch". So I asked him them in an email and the answer was:

"We have the clutch modified to the reverse rotation, otherwise it would fail at some point if a standard clutch were used."

I have never seen any discussion on this. How is this done? Who can do it? For all those who did the York to Sanden conversion, did you just use the stock Sanden part that comes on it or did you do this conversion?

One final note, I noticed the model compressor that Retroair is shipping is the 7312. That part has been superseded by compressor model 4456.

It was my original understanding that it was a reverse spin compressor/clutch unit as a whole. Not just the clutch.

I am not sure but both Sanden models 7312 and 4456 specifications say they run clockwise for the rotation direction. Retroair is acting like they are doing something specifically with the clutch only. I think I can do it cheaper than $1,500 and keep it R12. You can still buy R12 legally from NAPA if you have a 609 certificate.
