So does all the oil reside in the compressor?
If so how much and how do you change it?

    Need to recharge my A/C.

The oil charge goes in thru the fittings with the gas.......I'm reaching back from memory but it's not much .......4 oz.????

PM Sean F. he just rebuilt his system, unless someone psts with Shop Manual info...

The oil type has to match the refrigerant.....R12....R134.

i don't really know how critical it is........but the comp. oil is different for R12 and R134. I just use what is recommended. I think due to some natural bleed off into the ac system?

PAG oil works for both R12 and 134A. There is a fill plug in the compressor and you can check how much is in the unit. If you had blown a seal or condenser then you most likely blew the oil out of the system. You can also use an oil charge can of freon instead of filling through the compressor. The oil will circulate through the system and lubricate the compressor. In the earlier days the oil used for R12 was only compatible with R12. The new PAG oils works with both.

Looking at the Duracool site it appears it is compatible with PAG or mineral oils . That is for Duracool 12a , so just read their info and do what it says. I never used the stuff so don't have to much info on it.
