Intermittently the A/C compressor makes a knocking noise (similar to a poorly adjusted lifter) when is it engaged. The clutch bearing is fine so I assume it is internal to the compressor, so new compressor needed (before it blows!)

I found a couple of older threads about rebuilding but no equivalent replacement through a generic Dephi part, has anyone recently hit pay dirt? $2K is a little steep for me. Any recommendations on a good rebuilder?

Also, any pointers on removing the compressor from the car? Accessibility appears OK from below, though a couple of bolts seem quite challenging....comments? suggestions?

As you are probably well aware, PLEASE dont use the a/c till you replace the compressor mate. :D:D

You dont want any failed compressor parts through your a/c system. I only had to clean out an and repair an a/c system at work the other day. Took me all day flushing lines etc.etc. just to get the metallic-sludge out of the the hoses. :D:D

I carried it over to finish cleaning the evaporator and condensor. New compressor was being fitted as the old one failed internally and sent metal sludge right through the system. :D:D

If anyone can supply me the original "Ferrari part" number I will see if I can match up the compressor from one of my contacts. :):)

Thanks PAP, yes the switch is in the off position but the temp is rising here in Texas so I need to fix soon. The ferrari part number is 180041. I have attached a couple of (poor) pictures of the compressor label. I believe it's a Delphi unit and this is what I deciphered off the label

    SAE J369
    Part 6581290
    Code 060630227

Thanks in advance for your help.
