I have now fitted the new compressor. It did take some time due to the fact I had to do it from underneath lying on the floor in my garage. Next major problem and I have to buy myself a lift. Anyway, it turned out quite well but I found something rather disturbing. In the front of the engine, just in the middle there are two sensors for the ignition. One goes to the left and the other one to the right. Each sensor has a wire with a connector. Those connectors are mounted in a small device just to keep them together and to hold them in place. I suggest all of you who read this dismount this little device ( M5 nut or so) and check the connectors. It turned out one of mine just fell apart. In the end there was no insulation left at all and I just shiver when I think of what could have happened. Troubleshooting the sensor and its lack of insulation is not the first thing you think about when the engine starts to misfire. PAP if you read this ..............do not worry it is no big deal mounting the compressor. Looks worse than what it actually is. Just one remark though......the new belt has to be fitted before the comressor bolts are mounted. Good Luck! B
Thanks B. How hard was it to fit the hoses?? I will look into fixing mine when I come back from holidays. Around 3 weeks time. I have probably done ALOT worse jobs, but looks a little daunting. I also have big hands. I may have to hire a midget to get in there to do them for me.
Fitting the hoses on the compressor was no match. A few more joints on the right arm would come in handy if u can arrange that. Dont know what it looks like in the other end of the hoses ( since you were going to change them) Good luck and pls let me know how you get on. Rgds, B
Haha! Thanks mate. I will see how I go. I have probably done alot worse, so it will be cool. When I get it done, I will let you know. I will probably come back and tell you it was easy. The other end of the hoses are very easy to get at. They are on the compressor side, on the back of the cab/firewall. Easy to reach.
Howdy mate. Finally.............got around to removing my a/c hoses. Very easy job actually. Jacked car off ground. Removed RHR wheel. Removed 5 screws to remove inner wheels well, to access compressor/hoses. Loosened 2x a/c hose fittings that mount to firewall a/c pipes. Loosened 2x a/c hose fittings that mount to top of compressor. Removed hoses and Bob's your Uncle. I have large hands/big forearm, as does my brother. I thought it would be a pain to get in there, but not bad at all. I removed a/c and alt belts. I will replace them also. Alt belt is perished. Took around 30mins all up from start to finish. Easy job when you have the right tools. The a/c hose fitting closest to the engine block was loose. When I got my a/c gased late last year, there was minimal gas left in the system, so we assumed a leak was evident. We found a leaking schroder valve on the high pressure side. We replaced that and thought we fixed the problem. 2 months later, a hose split, so we couldnt tell 100% if it was the schroder valve. But...........finding this loose hose fitting, tells me that this was probably the major a/c leak here. I will replace both a/c hoses, although 1 had split/leaking. See what this chat does to you? I never even thought of getting the wheel off when I changed the compressor. I did it all from underneath. Was ok but this looks easier. Next time I will ask you first, before I do it by myself. Many years back I was working in Dynapac, a Swedish multinational company. They make compaction rollers for big damms, airports and normal roads. At that time they bought rear axles from a US based company. In very big letters it said on the first page of their manual:: BEFORE YOU DO IT YOUR WAY-----TRY IT OUR WAY So true so true Take care, //B//
Here are the old hoses. Well, the split one anyways. Both hoses were really hard/perished. I am very lucky to have the Auto electrician make me some new hoses when we go back to work on Thursday night. For free of course. I will get 2 new belts tomorrow. They are Dayco belts, so should have them on the shelf here. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
