Ferrari's cost for a new one is $2100.00 Italiancar parts.com can rebuild mine [better than a new one... so they say with better bearings for $800-$1100] I have a friend in Italy trying to find a new one...Are they cheaper there?????????? I assume you have a "Sankyo" compressor #146619 - we have one in stock at around $1130 (USD), but I guess the shipping could be expensive, if you PM me your full mailing address I can quote you an accurate cost.

The 709 must be a whole lot different than the SD-5 I bought two summers ago for my Porsche. It cost about $280.

To give you an idea of price ranges, I was quoted $1500 for a compressor for an 82 Mondial. I got one off ebay (Ferrari OEM) for $200 and it works fine. Try to find aftermarket or used.
    Good luck.

YES. This is a Sanden SD709. I have this exact one installed in my 348 and it works flawlessly. It is brand new. In the United States.

Trust me, as a Ferrari guy (like everyone here), I'm not trying to fool anyone or make pull the wool over anyone's eyes. It's the real deal.

Be aware, when changing a compressor, it's usually advised to also change the drier and expansion valve, but that's really your choice -- or the choice of your shop/mechanic.

    Just for the record:

Daniel from Ricambi America, is a honest individual, and the products he carry are the real thing, not cheap/low quality imitations.

I have been a customer of Ricambi since March, when I purchased my 328.

I highly recommend Ricambi as your parts supplier.

Should be able to bring it in and match it up at your local auto parts store. Maybe a couple hundred bucks for a new one or $150 for rebuilt. Sanyo's were popular and still are. You may want them to look up the model number and see what other cars use them , I would suspect that the clutch is different but worse case all you need to do is change it. The shafts should be the same. Don't get ripped by an Fcar price this are Jap compressors used by millions of cars.

First, I think the legitimate parts suppliers, myself included, take offense at the "ripped" term. Big parts margin is *not* being made by your independent suppliers... you're welcome to peruse my financial statements if you need proof. I'm quite certain Russell and Kevin would agree: this isn't a Texas oil patch.

Second, this compressor body might be common (in your opinion), but frankly, it is not widely available. More importantly, an A/C compressor is defined by its head and clutch -- as much as the body. So if you just go ask your PepBoys store for a Sankyo, I think you'll be in for a surprise.

    Respectfully,
    Daniel

Brand new with clutch assembly. Shop around and you'll get it for less. Also all you need to do it get the cars it is used on and go to a salvage yard and you could pick it up for maybe $100-150

Steve, that particular compressor has the wrong head, wrong grooves, incorrect clutch diameter, and incorrect switch for a 348, 355, or Mondial t.

When the alternator of my 1991 Mondial T broke down, I removed the pulley, took it to a GM dealer and went home with a exchange unit for $ 200. I did not mention it was for a Ferrari.

    Was true plug & play.

Works fine. Can someone guess how much it saved?

I don't think anyone was trying to offend you, but $1000 for and AC compressor is "being ripped" in almost anyone's opinion. Honda wanted $800 for my Accord AC, I bought one from a local supplier for $220.

Sorry, there are as you know maybe 50-75 different types . And I can bet that almost all of the clutch assembles and connectors are interchangable. It's just a matter of looking around or paying the inflated prices. So if you need to make 20 or 50% margins then there will be the deep pockets folks picking up the tab. I enjoy the hunt. Things like Sanden and York and Bosch and wire sets and bearings and shims and ATE parts are all available from 3rd party suppliers whitout Fcar prices. The initial intent of this web site was to help out folks in tech tips along with finding reasonable prices to fix their cars. So us 3xx 'ers who are in the low budget class and enjoy the ride are looking for options. The tech tips help us in repair cost and the parts interchangability helps us in the same way. Enjoy the ride

NOT SURE IF YALL CAN HELP. About a month ago I had a hose tear and hot coolant leaked, no sprayed all over the a/c compressor. It happened a few times as I was stranded and had to drive and put water in every few miles until I got to an auto parts store to replace the hose. Anyways, now my A/C compressor clicks very noisily in unison with the engine rpms. click click click click click........ I tried squirting some gear oil right behind the clutch which worked really well for about and hour or so. I get plenty of cold air and no troubles with operation besides the noise. I looked at the manual and on page 19 it shows a spot to add oil but this is for the internals and not the bearings and if I unscrew it will obviously let the coolant out.. Is there a way, without tearing it out, to get it greased back? I have already done a search and found nothing....

    Nathan,
If you have a York or Aspera style compressor, the bearings are lubricated by the crankcase oil. It's possible that you've got a rust spot or 2 inside the clutch. Possibly you're squirting oil in there (a real no-no).

Haven't torn down a Sanden compressor, but I'll be surprised if the bearings aren't also lubricated by internal oil.

The same oil that circulates around your engine to keep it lubricated.

I think it is the crankcase of the AC compressor that Verell is talking about. The compressor has its own oil reservor . I would also suspect that the clicking if coming from the compressor is a result of the water/coolant getting into the compressor clutch. And if you put oil in the clutch I suspect it is shot by now.

so the only way to get oil into this "reservoir" is from the oil line that feeds the compressor? this is weird.
