I was having issue much like the other gentleman with the door locks, gas gap release working etc. The battery was low so I simply disconnected the battery (both positive and negative), let it charge on 2 amp for a couple days, hooked it back up and viola they work. Now... there is absolutely no power to the A/C, Heat, Clock fan controls etc. They worked fine before I disconnected the damn battery...so I tried it again (positive only though) and nada. I have checked everything I can think of and everything seems fine. When you turn the headlights on the light descriptors come on but absolutely no green lights on anything...no fan no heat no A/C and the weirdest...no clock. This has got to be something simple...ideas? If I sacrifice a chicken and disconnect the door locks (I don't use them anyway) you think it will give me my heat and A/C back?
The first thing to check is your hidden fuse and fuse holder under the carpet of your luggage trunk on the right/U.S. passenger side. Pics are in the 348 Primer link below.
Thanks I'll try that...didn't even know that existed. Quality bit of data one would have thought to include in the owners manual. That is one nice informative bunch of data collected in those files. I've got some reading to do...by the way if that works come on over for dinner...fresh chicken LOL!
Dan: You couldn't hardly imagine how many new 348 owners have been caught out by problems associated with the "hidden fuse". Besides making sure that the fuse isn't blown, you have to make sure that the fuseholder itself isn't melted. It's possible to have a good fuse, but no current flowing through it. That's why it's recommended to replace the blade fuse and holder with a cylindrical fuse and holder (about 5 times the contact area). Also, there have been cases (particularly after the battery has been disconnected) where the A/C won't come back on line until you either unplug the fuse and reinstall it, or unplug the connector on the back of the A/C panel and reinstall it. Last comment: Do you know about re-initializing the Motronic ECU's after having the battery disconnected?
I found the panel and the fuse was good, the holder looked perfect no signs of heat or anything else. I checked the wiring and module and everything seems fine...I put an amp meter on it and power is there. I unplugged and replugged everything back but still nothing. All the connections look excellent... Is it possible that the button on the console itself is grounding out the system? The heat button before it went completely out would "stick" when pushed and then slowly retract itself. Possibly that contact is just stuck interupting the complete circuit? Miltonian, on re-setting the ECU's no I'm not. I'm assuming it's somewhere in that most wonderful document that No Doubt refered me to...there is so much good data in that 154 pages I'm still reading through all that. Truely a wealth of data there.
I had my car for about 6 months with bad problems with the ac unit. It turned out to be the fuse holder had melted as well. My son managed to take the old part out and replace it with a bigger fuse & holder. Fingers crossed it is still ok!
PAP had that problem if I remember correctly. Unplugging the A/C connector did the trick in his case. Of course it will not help if the fuse is blown. I have taken those things apart so many times now, I can do it in my sleep. //B//
Well after trying all the above and not finding any evident issues I was clearly vexed...Following the easy to understand instructions provided I pulled the console and yup...contact stuck. I simply pushed both contacts of the clock simultaneously and VIOLA everything came on. Ran the scan looking for error codes and all is well in A/C, Heat and Clock world now. Of course now the fuse will probably blow but at least I have that fix down LOL. Thanks for the help! I printed all that data off from No Doubt and it is prominently displayed in a binder I labled "Look Here First Dummy". There is absolutely a mass of incredible data in there.
