Ok I don't drive the 550 much, so I took it out yesterday. The A/C was not blowing cold. I took it to a local shop and they did a evac/ recharge. The air coming out of the vents smelled bad.. then about 3 hours later, didn't work. Anyone else had this problem? I did a search and most everyone that had a/c problems replaced their compressor but no one complained about any kind of smell..

Could possible be a clogged line in your system (drain or evaporators). When you run the AC is water dripping under the car?

How bad is the smell? Is it like old gym bag (which could be mold)?

Have your shop look at it again, could be an evaporator leak, though they should have spotted this in the evac/recharge.

There are 2 lines up in front that can leak, dump freon. Happened to me. New lines are not cheap, but fix problem. Sudden failure not uncommon, not easy to find problem. HTH

It's soo annoying to find the problem, but the best way to scout out the problem with a leaky A/c system is to next time take it back to the shop that did the A/c recharging and ask about using an "oil Die' this is injected into the a/c system will scout the source of the leak out, but I would check with the service manual from Ferrari if this is allowed, now the good news is if the leak is with in the engine area then it will be easy to find but if the leak is under the dash then it will require pulling things a part,

    questions for you:

    1) The smell of the A/c when its turned on smell like
    a-celery
    b-coolant
    c-???

    2) when you turn the a/c on can you hear a loud clicking noise and the engine RPM's dip a bit

    3) Sitting on idle at a stand still does the engine temp get to high wile

    good luck.
