    Well, I decided to stick with R12 after finding a local source for it. I did replace the receiver/drier to make sure everything was in good shape (see parts exchange for the $10 unit). But after charging the system, I found that by the next day, the system was drained to 0 psi. So after searching through the system, I found a small tear in the lip of the compressor seal. I installed a new seal kit and charged up the system again (after pulling a vacuum on it for an hour). I am now getting 38 degrees F out of the vents (on recirc). You could hang meat in there! :D It took 2-1/2 cans of R12 to remove all bubbles from the sight glass. The compressor is still running strong. I was getting 180 psi high side and 30 to 40 psi low side. After a night of sitting, everything looks good. I took pics of the whole process and I will right up a DIY post about it. ;)

    I found the seal kit for the A/C compressor on our 348's. The compressor is a Sanden SD709.

    Manufacturer: Murray

    Part number: 24031
