Was out working on my semi-annual detail on my '01 550 this morning and noticed there were 3x1 in. long sections on the the dashboard which had pulled away from below the winshield joining point. There is also a tiny section of the Speedo/Tach section which looks as if it has started to pull away.
I bought this car new in '01 and have treated the leather interior each year with Leatherique products. The car has always been garaged in a coditioned environment and has ~ 48,000 fun miles.
Did a little searching here and found this is not an uncommon problem for a 550. Checked out a company called the Bradon Group in New york which was recommended to repair this type of problem, and they appear to be able to do this.
Couple of questions. What is the approx. cost and time required to fix this? Anyone had experience with Bradon or any other company doing these repairs located in the vicinity of Washington, DC? Is this potentially a problem which will occur in the future?
    Thanks.

The main cost is the labor remove the dash which could be ten hours - the leather can usually be stretched back and modern non-italian glues should then prevent reoccurence

Bradan does great work. They did the dash on my 550 prior to my owning it. Looks great.
Since you are local to Washington DC I would first call Competizione and Sports Cars in Gaithersburg. They are the most expert shop in the area and I'm betting have done this job in conjunction with a local upholsterer for many years. Tell them Pete from Richmond sent you. If they don't typically do that work Bradan is a fine choice.

    Tiger 6,

Bradan cost to reupholster the problem as you describe it would be about $2500.00. If there is more damage than just under the windshield the cost could go up. The dash must be reupholstered – the leather cannot be stretched back into place.

If you have other work to do on the car and/or are looking for paint correction, detailing etc Bradan is a great and cost effective house for that.

I have had two dashes reupholstered and lot of other work done at Bradan – you will be happy.

    Merry Christmas!!
