So I arrive back at my computer to see I have a message on SoulSeek (filesharing program). I open it up, and see the following [asterisks indicate sensored language so I don't get in trouble]:

    (20:40) [u2fann2] *eff* you

I've been outside all day, in Texas, so I'm not extremely witty. I reply,

    [dudermcbadass] *eff* me?
[dudermcbadass] I'm not the pansy-assed *motherjumper* that wants to suck Bono's *small extremety*
[dudermcbadass] so I'd say, *eff* you

Now, satisfied that this person who must either be 1) a 12 year old future client of Oil Can Harry's [unless you're from Austin you probably won't get the joke] or 2) a 30 year old that lives in his mother's basement won't reply, I depart to watch Rescue Me. I return, unsuspecting as to the reply I would receive...

    (20:51) [u2fann2] you dream whith boys don´t you....BOY!!!!!first (u2 album)
    (20:55) [u2fann2] Pansy-assed *motherjumper* -this is a computer...not a mirror!!!!
(21:03) [u2fann2] the cat eat your ass!!? badass
(21:04) [u2fann2] hope you eat what you can.....
    (21:04) [u2fann2] some *chips*!!!!

WTF? Does listening to this much U2 really make you that stupid, or is it just that the only people that listen to U2 are people that cannot form their own opinions and/or know real music when they hear it?

For the record, this idiot downloaded Henry Rollins' "I hate U2". So, it's not like I went around a bunch of chat rooms in SoulSeek beraiting U2, he was just an idiot that downloaded a spoken word .mp3 from a well known artist that I have absolutely no connection to whatsoever.

No wonder I get such stupid comments when I wear my Skip James shirt...

That may be the most ridiculous exchange of words I have ever seen. It looks like a conversation between 2 high schoolers.

By the way, I listen to quite a bit of U2, and think they are one of the top bands of all time. Does this mean I cannot form my own opinion, or that I don't know real music? You should probably think a little harder before typing such a statement that berates all U2 fans in such a general fashion. It is that kind of generality that can really p*ss someone off. Oh, wait......maybe YOU are a high schooler.

    Huh?

I've been a U2 fan since I saw them in '84 as a wee lad, although I've moved more towards jazz. Compared to most other pop music, their's has aged very well.

The real question is why every pop song for the last 10-15 years has pretty much been someone talking and mumbling through 4 minutes of looped simulated drum tracks. CD sales and radio ratings are in the tank, and I think it's because we don't have a lot of talented musicians making records anymore.

I've got a trick for ya. Go stand outside, in the sun, in Texas all day. After you've sweated about 3 gallons of water through your pores, push 3 cars 100 yards. Then, I'll tell you that you talk like a high schooler.
I'm not arguing that point with you.

I guess I thought a bunch of Ferrari fans would get the humor in it, what with that "higher education" and all.

    There ya go.

I will admit, however, that it doesn't seem nearly as hilarious as it did last night after a day outside. Oh, well, Bono still sucks. :p

Some are missing the crux - out of nowhere, Chris received a message from an idiot that downloaded a spoken word .mp3 - I hate U2 - by a well known artist - Henry Rollins - that Chris has absolutely no connection to whatsoever.

    u2fann2: **** you

In reply, he gave idiot a taste of his own medicine.

Idiot responds with u2 references. Hence - opinion of unoriginal thought, inability to think for oneself.

While it seems a broad statement, one must note his reference to the Skip James shirt - he is oft "corrected" that it's Rick James when he's out and about. By whom? You guessed it.

The public in tandem with the private formed the more often than not opinion/stereotype.
