    1. What does it take to get on a waiting list? A deposit I would assume? If so, how much?

    2. What if the waiting list is too long that a new model will be out by then? What happens to those people on the list?

    Thanks!

    1:10k, usually @ Fcar dealers(DJ excepted :p )
2:Ask they roll you to next car, get in writing, or see if list so long that allocation will not fill orders ahead of you.
3 Non-Fcar dealers usually 1k-2k, if more, walk.

1: Usually, the dealership stipulates what it requires to get on a waiting list. Sometimes you have to have an established relationship with the dealer (as in some Ferrari cases) or you just have to simply put a specified amount down. I have also heard of some people simply asking to be on the list. You are usually taken more seriously if you have previously bought, or are in the process of buying, a vehicle from them.

    2. Again, depends on the dealer. Reputable dealers will simpy keep the list running with the new model. However, some will start over. Others will pull stupid tricks.

Advice: regardless of where or what it is, make friends with the salesman/manager. One guy I know of makes it a stipulation of his, when he buys a car from someone, that he is first on the list for the replacement. Good practice, in my opinion. Either way, to truly get stuff accomplished, relationship always helps.

Hope this helps you out. :)

    1) In my experience, a deposit. If its a super hot car (i.e. Enzo) they will want to limit who gets on by whatever criteria they decide. Usually a dealer will be happy to hold onto your $$ while you wait.

    2) Usually they are offered the chance to get in on the new model, or the dealer tells them they will be unable to provide the model ordered and give them their $$ back

    ...in my experience that is.
