Made in 74 about the Vietnam war from early as 20 years prior to the film. It really shows how horrible things can become for those who are not even involved in the conflict. Until I saw this I honestly didn't know the underpinning of what happened there and why, that a plan on paper is far from what happens in reality due to the impossibility of human nature being on par with blindly ambitious intentions.

I don't believe that conflict is never an option, rather that it should be your last option after all others have been exhausted and proven insufficient. The film made me consider the power and potential of diplomatic power as a necessary prerequisite to conflict. However it may be that men like Mihn an Hussien take power by being immune to diplomatic pressures, still we must never cease to question and perfect our ability of soft power to prevent these men from committing the attrocities they have.

I highly recommend the film. It is a true documentary, not the kind of biased and controlled bull**** like Moore and pals. You never see the director and only hear him speak occassionaly to answer a question from someone he is interviewing. There is no narration, only important clips of film and interviews with just the person talking. It's one of the few movies have ever made me choke up :(

This is a famous documentary. I don't recall if it won any awards or not, but I believe it did. It is very well known in film and documentary circles.
Obviously the filmmakers had a particular agenda they were trying to push and they pushed it very well with this film. Don't think for a minute that there was a great deal of objectivity though. I first saw this film back in college and I was very affected by it. The execution scene was the first time I ever saw anything like that that was "real" - pretty strong stuff at the time.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll try to locate it.

As for another recommendation: although, not a documentary, well... you just need to see it. For some reason I feel this is an important movie for people to see, especially in times of war. Lessons of Darkness from the filmmaker Werner Herzog - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104706/

I think the best documentary I've ever seen was one on Chickens, which apparently won some awards back in 00/01.

For me, Saving Private Ryan turned me off the idea of being in combat, even after Chuck Norris made it look so fun riding the rocket-firing dirtbike in The Delta Force.
