    Hello,

First, I by no means am actually looking to purchase any of these cars, just wanted to compare the ownership experiences and the cars.

This is comparing owning a 997 Turbo and a 360 Spider to owning a CGT alone.

Saying a 360 Spider is $150,000 and a new 997 Turbo is $150,000 thats $300,000 which is about what you can get a Carrera GT for. So the price is about the same.

Ferrari will give you great engine sound, passion, open air driving, and looks. The 997 will give you engineering, and a heck of a driving experience. The Carrera GT gives you great engine sound, passion, open air driving, looks, engineering, and a heck of a driving experience. That is again similar.

Then you can consider that you would use the 997 more, but having one car (CGT) would cut down the maintenance and save a garage spot.

    So what would you do?

    Regards

    Joe

I guess I can be objective here, because none of those three cars are on my want list.

From what I have seen, people who own Carrera GTs seem not to drive them much, but instead keep them in storage as investment cars, because there aren't many. It's the same with the Ford GT, where most of them seem to have 12 miles on the odometer after 4 years. That would drive me nuts. On one hand, if you drive it 20,000 miles you have the "beater" car of the CGT fleet. Or, you can keep the miles off and never really enjoy it. For the money, I'd probably hunt for an F40 that had a bunch of miles on it instead and own a legend that I could drive.

The 360 Spider and 911 Turbo were produced in much larger numbers and essentially aren't collectible. So, you can actually drive them.

I like contrast in what's in my garage. Modern vs. vintage, GT vs sports car, German vs. Italian, etc.

If I were buying a newer Porsche, a lightly used GT3 would be more interesting to me, but a 997 Turbo would also be everyday-driveable and more discreet (in dark colors). For sound, passion, open air driving and exotic looks, I'd take the 328 GTS over the 360 Spider. You'd lose a lot of performance, but you already have that in the modern Porsche, and you'd gain a lot of what sports cars used to be about before airbags, computers, etc.

Or I could see the other solution - grab a used F430 for $150K when the F450 (?) comes out later this year and for $150K get a vintage Porsche (Speedster, or maybe a 930 from back when they were wild cars) for the other bay.

We have a 360 Spider and a Boxster S. The wife drives the Boxster and I drive the Fcar. I don't think she would drive a CGT...but I could be wrong. It's nice to have two cars.

The 360 is perfect for me. Turned down my slot for a 430 Spider last year and have never regretted it.

In the last car show I was in, my 360 was voted Aspen's Best Babe Magnet and the CGT next to my car was voted the Most Luxurious car. The guy dislplayed the sticker showing how much the CGT cost. And at $465k it was the most expensive car in the show. When I fired up the 360 (with Tubi exhaust) several people applauded. The CGT left in abject silence.

    Life is good. ;)

Ya, the problem with CGT is that it is a collectable. If you drive it, it makes it the less valuable CGT and if you don't drive it what's the point.

I would pick the 997 Turbo and the 360 Spider. Actually a very good pair. Like you said, Ferrari for top down cruising, engine sound etc and the Porsche for engineering and speed.

It's funny, if all the Ferrari convertibles were worth the same and I was given the choice, I would pick the 360, though frankly not a fan of the modular wheels, I feel they take away from the cars curvedness and beauty.

    Nice!

It's funny though, as much as the 360 is a babe magnet, I feel it is a lot more luxurious then the CGT. THe CGT is almost in the same league as the CS and the Scud in terms of luxuries and comfort.

CGT. It separates the drivers from the wannabees.

That's similar to the F40. Maybe it's a U.S. phenomenon, but no one seems to actually drive CGTs here.

Exactly. A 360 can be had for a little more than half that amount.

Assuming that the cars in question are to be considered toys, I'd rather have one really awesome toy than two pretty good toys.

For me it would be 360 CS, 996tt cab, and CTS-V for about the same as a CGT. But thats just me.
