going through some books and reading materials, car related of course, more speciifically Ferrari

there were SO many various Ferrari made, but yet also so many never created....if that makes sense :)

my mind goes to thinking about cars i would love to build for myself, some which never existed, perhaps you could call them hotrods?....never the less, it's what petrol-heads do

what Ferrari that never was, would you build?? ...that is within the realm of the possible!

there are so many, but in particular i thought how sweet it would be to have a 246 Dino, but with slightly widened fender flares (muscular looking), sans bumpers, some 206SP styling cues, and a hotted carb V8 transverse engine from a euro 308, with magnesium (gold) campagnallo 5 star wheels.....or better, since the basic frame is so similar, to have a full 328 setup under-skin :D :D
seems do-able, perhaps someone already has??
sort of a mix of these in pics, combined :)

A Ferrari 550 ''GTO''. Lightweight, hardcore, V12 monster.

Up to myself now I suppose :D

there have been a couple that come to mind!

the 308 featured in road&track years ago (i remember having that edition) which had a V12 fitted in transverse to the engine bay

there's also the F40 which has a V12 swapped in (i can't remember company name at the moment?)

...and i'll be damned if i can find pics of either one right now :(

    :D

Ron, I give you... the Lancia Stratos! :D

I think it compares quite favorably to your photo-shop of a shortened GT4. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

In a way, yes. Not nearly as wide and low though and no big gay wing. More like the ''Saurus'' 550. Individual throttle bodies, inconel headers, titanium exhaust system, ''stradale'' treatment to the interior (alcantara everywhere), racing seats, and probably a 575 style dash. Probably fit BBS FI wheels, same as the GTO, but in 19''. That would be a dream Ferrari for me. A 1350kg, 650hp 550 ''Evo''.
Simpson motorsport in the UK has done it. http://www.simpsonmotorsport.co.uk/default.asp?id=119&pid=70&name=Ferrari%20F40%20V12&page=Projects

They do look a lot alike, don't they?

308 GT4 cars can be bought for a pretty low price these days.
Unfortunately, by the time the mods have been made and fully debugged, the shortened GT4 project would probably cost more than a decent Stratos would cost.

there are a few really rough body 308gt4 i've seen, but all the mechanicals are there
a couple were wreck, or hale damaged, but since 308gt4 has low resale, no one bought to repair

getting to my point, you can buy a very accurate stratos fiberglass body now (UK maker, but has a US supplier)....use all the 308gt4 mechanicals/suspension (tuned up of course), fabricate a custom tube frame (?) or shortened 308gt4 frame, and a stratos body.....that'd be a great lil car :D

very nice car :) love that first picture, red with gold rims.....being a guy who likes sleeper cars, i'd probably make it closer to stock looking even still, remove that wing as you said....so it's even more unsuspecting :D

ya, that's it :) ....unfortunately they don't have any engine bay pictures :( ...anyone have some pics of the F40 V12 engine bay??

I'd probably make the front splitter a little less extreme also. Carbon doors which you can open only by pulling a cord...oh yes!

Convertible 3X8. - GTS are close but not quite.

Flat 12 3X8 - I don't like the design of the Boxer, but it may have been function over form.

Vandenbrink 550 GTO is another one I like.

Another vote for a "true convertible" 328... that would have been awesome!!

come to think of it, a true convertible 288 GTO would look pretty good IMO, provided they engineered it with a closing metal cover, and not a cloth covered hunch-back :)
