Thanks to all of you guys again, for all the info in the prevous posts last month. I did manage to make it home from the bucket of bolts boat, and went on down to Bobileff motors asap. He had two BBs by then, but I was drawn to the one with the black interior. During the course of several visits, I poked and prodded, looked at all that I could, liked what I saw, and finally took it for a test drive today. And what an unbelievable experience! The drive was raw, and loud, and plenty fast enough, and I think my heart is still banging a little quicker than normal!
Gary's been great! More than willing to spend time and answer all my questions, and spent quite a bit of time going through all the service records with me. Today I left him with a deposit, and scheduled a PPI for tomorrow. Now I might be making a mistake in doing this, but I'm going to have him do the inspection. My reasoning for this is that so far he's been very frank and honest with me, and his shop has done the service for the last two owners. I'm sure he'd like the car to keep coming to his shop for service, so doubt he'd 'hide' anything that might be a big surprise down the road.
Needless to say, I'm one excited guy! Can anyone comment on what numbers I should expect to see on the compression and leakdown tests? He does these with a cold engine, so that should give worst case results.
All the normal stuff was checked out and worked okay today, but somehow during the test drive, I forgot to try the radio!
    Thanks, John

Congrats on the car. The radio would probably have to play at full volume to hear it over the engine. I would expect to see numbers in the 125 to 140 range and leakdown numbers in the 2, 3 or 4% range. I am sorry that I did not see the earlier posts so I don't know the number of miles, BUT if the car has been well cared for then that may not be a problem, Another aspect that you want to look at is not necessarily the raw compression numbers, but the consistency of the numbers, ie. 125, 127, 128, 126 etc. as opposed to 125, 143, 139, 131 etc. Good luck on the PPI, if the fellow has serviced the car for a long time and is a reputable guy, I would have no problem with him doing the inspection. Have fun and put it in the wind!

Regardless of how honest he may be, I would still get someone else to do the PPI. When buying an exotic car, you can never be too careful.

For Once I agree with Parker!
If there is a sore spot mechanically he will avoid telling you all that is entailed,A good Boxer is a asset, a not so good one is a headache, and a bad one is a liability.
