Lou- Nice those ground roll spoilers pop up so quickly. Always a happy sight and feeling in a cross-wind landing.
Narita is one of my least favorite airports to land in (it's always a bumpy ride), least favorite to try to get around in, and one of least favorite to stay any time in (well, it's better then CDG or JFK but that's not saying much). Its also a PITA to get to Tokyo.
It's nice to see a Narita video without extreme crosswind conditions. Looked like mostly -8s in that sequence, including one from your airline, Lou.
Nice.... Aren't they deployed by switches in the landing gear? As soon as they compress, the spoilers open?
T- Yup, like Bob said, called squat switches by the military and sometimes WOW (weight on wheels) switches by the civilians. Always a good feeling to have them come up. Have seen a couple of soft landings where they do not come up and you feel like you are in the world's fastest tricycle before she settles and they pop up. Dual use spoilers on some aircraft, where they also provide roll control.
