Lately my friend that owns a fabrication company and I have been playing around with a few ideas for my 348. He already built me a really nice bolt in roll cage, and now we want to build a few more things. I know its not something that some of you will agree with or like, but I think its pretty fun trying new things, and doing this helps him get his name out locally here.

Anyways, we are building a nice new coolant reservoir, as mine is pretty ugly and discolored. We are using a billet canton filler neck, and -an fittings to connect the heater hose and the other hose that connects to the center of the intake valley.

We are also building an exhaust using a flowmaster 80 series cross-flow muffler and mandrel 2.5" bends.

Last night we also started building 3" aluminum hardpipes that go from the window air ducts to the airbox. We used 3" silicon tubing for about 18 inches, and then the hard pipes start from there.

The next thing we want to do is remove the charcoal canister setup. Any suggestions on doing so? I have noticed that a few 348's I have seen lack that system. I live in Idaho so there are no emissions here. Thanks guys!

    Nice!

The factory corrugated hose is not good for airflow in my opinion. Matter of fact the whole intake track sucks. Got any pics of the work?

Unfortunately I had to lift a little early around 6500. The tach started jumping around everywhere but I still managed 244whp on a dynojet.

Great ideas ! This unit in the pic is probably too wide for a 348 but really nice quality and has an easy fluid check mechanism. Can't the reservoir be shortened in depth/width and still function if in correct height?

That's awesome...I'm sure it can, and if anyone is interested we're building a jig to make a few more. An easy level check would be super easy to add also. The one thing I wasn't sure about is the hose that exits in the bottom left corner and goes back to the middle of the engine under the intake manifold. When you look inside there is a tube connected that come up approx 1/2 inch from the top of the reservoir. I was thinking I could bent some 1/2 inch aluminum tubing and mate that up to the nipple on the bottom, or just place the nipple at the top. It seems it would do the same thing. I don't even want to know how much the charge for that reservoir. It doe's look nice though. Mine is going the be a factory bolt in replacement. As of right now, we are having 4 sets of parts laser cut out. Should have them back in a few days. The one in the picture was just done on a metal break in his shop to get an idea if its going to work. Should be pretty neat though to add a custom touch to my car.

And yes it had to be yellow. I don't have any current pictures but it wraps perfectly around the sparco rev seats. I'll try and get some uploaded soon.

About $366 bux fits porsche 951 and probably a few other cars with fender reservoirs. That vendor has great products and will buy one when the ole '86 springs a leak. Considering the 348 reservoir is already lightweight yet probably old and questionably sound any upgrade that brings a visible glass level check and stainless bling will be cool. No other benefits for performance I suppose.

And that's honestly not a bad price. Guessing that ours has the ferrari name attached to it, it will automatically increase the price. The nice thing is it seems we have a little more wiggle room in our engine bays than Porsche. We'll mess around with that and a few more ideas and see what we come up with.

Nice stuff. I've always wanted an alternative to the corrugated air intake hoses.

Well here are a few of the parts mounted on the car. The parts still need to be polished but overall I'm super happy how they have turned out.

There may be real no benefits but either way, I'm glad I was able to make a little bit of a personal touch to my car.

The catch can has a billet aluminum radiator cap bung welded on, with a 1.3 bar radiator cap. A 1/2 npt to 3/4" hose barb was welded on the front using a mishimoto 3/4 silicone hose to attach to the radiator hard pipes. For the smaller hose that usually attaches to the bottom left of the tank, we welded on a -8AN flare fitting to the top of the tank.

As far as the MAF to TB pipes, they were pie cut with multiple 5 degree 3" aluminum sections. The couplers are 3" to 2.75" silicone reducers. There are two fitting welded on to each pipe. There is a -6AN bung for the crankcase breather, going to a 90 degree hose barb. For the IAC, there are -12AN bungs going to 90 degree elbows, attached to 3/4 silicone hoses that replaced the factory hoses.

    Hope everyone enjoys!
