My Dad’s brother, my Uncle Ross was born in Winnfield, LA in 1916 to an itinerant photographer as the sixth child. Through a strange series of events he became a CAP flight instructor and then at the beginning of WW2 he served as an Army Air Corps flight instructor at a remote base in west central Texas called Curtis Field. After the war he flew the Super Connies for Howard Hugh’s TWA and then for the Linea Aeropostal Venezolana (LAV) saying they were the best aircraft ever. Recently after clearing the post Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon fire and flooding sand and gravel from his grave marker I had not realized that he had used the famous sonnet written by John McGee as his own epitaph. Perfect for a lifelong flying enthusiast!

    Best regards,

    Robert
