Hi, just wanted to post about the Jalpa I just picked-up yesterday for my friend. It's a 1985 white on red. Not a show car but a clean average driver. Runs good and looks good too. Was for sale on Hebdo.net in Toronto. He made an offer and got it. We live 8 hours from Toronto and I went to pick it up for him.
I test drove the car before paying and I was impressed how well it drove. On hwy 400 up to 150kmh with ease.
The only thing I don't like is their idle sound. Lots of noise compared to my Ferraris.
Here is the car being loaded for his trip to new home.

I was not a fan of these cars when they were new. Time has made them so much more attractive to me...this car is outstanding.

Hopefully a good deal and he drives the heck out of it. Best of luck, car looks great!!

Very nice! Congrats to you and your friend. At least you got to drive it first! LOL!

Always loved the Jalpa! I had a 1983 example for 7 years and loved it!

What is the noise you are hearing at idle? Is it a knocking sound? If so, the timing chains could stand to be re-tensioned.

I had a deal with Frank on that car for $25,000. He was supposed to drop it off at Lamborghini of Toronto two weeks ago for a PPI. He never did and told me he was going on vaction in Florida until today. Interesting that he sold it out from under me. I'm curious if you paid more then $25K for the car?

Nice car, is it FLA12193, owned once by Matt Frennett, drummer of the Canadian rock band "Loverboy"?

I guess you didn't actually have a deal... The car went to the highest bidder likely. I was also interested in it and had contacted Frank also. Funny you and I both would like to have another Jalpa. Such a cool car!

Rhyno the car was advertised at $35K cdn and my friend offered 30K. Paid 30cdn. He just left from my home 5 minutes ago with the car and he is extremely happy. The car is better than he expected. And yes he was out for Holiday. Martin bought it over the phone over two weeks ago but Frank was leaving for vacation. That is why I went to pick it up only yesterday. He was back wednesday late in the afternoon.

    Fantastic!!!

I love to see a car go with all the "stuff" (spare tire, parts manual, tool kit, owners manual, etc..).

So many times those items are missing and magically show up on eBay a month or so after the sale.

The White / Red combo looks great.

If any of you know where to find power window switches those have been replaced with Ferrari 308 ones. Apparently lost in the shipping of the car from the states a couple years ago.

Yes Mike it sound like a knocking. I tried to locate it with a stetoscope before buying because I thought of that too but all I was hearing was nice little ticking like a normal engine everywhere. Are the chains tensionner hard to reach ? How to do it ?

I know nothing about these engines.

    Thanks!

That's so stunning, a shark on wheels:)

I remember Phil Collins driving a white one in Miami Vice back in the 80s. I nearly bought one many years ago but had no garage. Still a dream car but unfortunately probably a lot more expensive than the Mondial to maintain. Love them!

Its pretty easy. If memory serves me correct, the procedure is in the owners manual.

Also, Raymond's site is a fantastic source for information on the Jalpa.

One other thing to check (unless Frank already did it), are the motormounts. They are notorious for cracking! Some pretty good shots on Raymonds site of what mine looked like when I replaced them!

Historically, there have been some comparisons between the Jalpa and Mondial. Both 8 cyl, 80's vintage, lower initial lower cost than their siblings, and a very forgiving ride. I had the pleasure of driving a brand new one back in the day - great car! I imagine the parts are becoming more difficult to find nowadays.
