    Hi,
I'm getting ready to install a lift in my garage, but the door is a 7 foot, so I don't know if the garage door will clear the lift posts. I could get an 8 foot door installed so it lifts a bit higher, but any higher and the door will cover the windows. I have plenty of ceiling height.
I guess my question is "how high are the posts for a lift?" Probably going with a 4 post.
    thanks,
    Eric

I would not recommend an eagle lift, esp for exotics. Buy a RAV, it is worth it.

I was also looking for a lift for a new garage, I googled RAV car lifts, but this is what I've found: http://www.americanautomotiveequipment.com/pages/831661/index.htm. Are these any good, or do you have a contact for the RAV?

    TIA,

    Jon

I think he was talking about the door as it opens? E-Tip, you should be able to get someone to come out and re-mount the track so that it is closer to the ceiling if that's what your worried about.

I bought a four post lift about 1 1/2 years ago from www.teamlift.com for around $2300.00; which included the lift, delivery and installation. I have been well pleased and have had no problem whatsoever. As I only have a 10' garage ceiling, I had to have my garage door changed to a "ceiling hugger" type with a torsion spring rather the the coil spring type that stuck out in the middle of my garage. I now have plenty of height to park my BB512i on top and my BMW M5 on bottom.

My eagle lift is 3 years old and it is great. I use it 5 out of 7 days a week for either working on customers cars and storing my 308. The big thing is these guys have been around for a long time and I suspect they will continue to be there when or if you need them.

    Hey guys,
thanks for all the replys. John, you're right, I meant will the garage door clear the posts when it opens. I have a high garage height, but the door company said the only way to make the door ride up along the ceiling was to have many extra panels and have the tracks go up. That's not an option as I have windows in the garage and if the door was ten feet high it would block the windows even when it's down.
    thanks for any advice.

Look at my profile pic. I had to increase the height of my door to make it work.

Exactly!! The door company said that in order to do that there had to be extra panals in the door. how do I do that without extra panals??

I'm not speaking from experience here but I thought they only had to change the tracks. I don't see what adding more panels would help with. Maybe they misunderstood you and thought you wanted to make the opening higher too??

I went to the website and selected English. When I went to products they came up in Italian. Any help would be appreciated. I'll wait to see if you come up with a contact. Thanks for your help.

I have an EagleSS7000........ best 4-post lift on the market period. (USA made, LifeTime waranty........took 4hrs to assemble).

The posts are 82" high. I have mine in a 10'tall garage, with 7' doors. When in use I just keep the doors down. (see some pics on my profile page homesite, under photo albums, under Pantera Pics..........the last two......Pic#10 is probably the best).

I did remove the overhead opener, and plan on adding another panel to the garage door, some track extensions, and use the InteliDrive system that is mounted where the coiled spring system is now.

I have a two post and like it. It makes doing brake and suspension work much easier. It also helps with the door clearance problem. My door did not hit the posts, but I could not raise the car up very high with the door open. So, I had the tracks rehung to give me an extra foot. They did not have to add panels to the door. I don't really see why that would be necessary.

You do not have to add panels to the door. You just add track straight up the wall to get the door up tight to the ceiling.

They say the opener pulls the door straight back, therefore, you have to have the top of the panal at the "go back" point otherwise it can't raise the door.
