like a 575M, or something like that...
This is surprising? This is what Ferrari does. When sales start to slow they come out with a special edition.
My mentor, who is a big Ferrari (vintage and modern) collector has been told something very similar by his sources at Maranello. Rumour is that they are going to put a V12 in the Cali. Won't know for sure until we hear from the company.
As I said, it was a rumour that he had heard and we all know rumours can be pretty far fetched and inaccurate.
Ferrari Planning Six New Modelsby Noah Joseph (RSS feed) Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos Ferrari always has its hands full. In addition to campaigning a world-championship Formula One team and competing in other classes of motorsport, the Italian exotic automaker is continuously unveiling new models and variants on the ones it already produces. Now, with its parent company Fiat announcing its plans for the future, Ferrari has revealed not one, not two, but six new models in the pipeline for the next couple of years. Next year, Maranello is slated to release the 458 Spider, the convertible version of the recently unveiled 458 Italia. After that will come the replacement for the 612 Scaglietti the company's four-seat flagship grand tourer complete with KERS hybrid powertrain. In 2012, Ferrari is expected to debut a successor to the all-conquering Enzo supercar, plus the replacement for the current 599 GTB Fiorano. And in 2013, the California convertible is due for a complete facelift, while the 458 Italia will get a new hardcore performance version to follow in the footsteps of the 360 Challenge Stradale and 430 Scuderia. Those are some ambitious plans for such a small company, and we'll enjoy bringing you the news on each as they emerge.
The California "M" was announced in the FIAT 2010-2012 investor briefings several months ago. Is this the same thing you're talking about or is there recent news from Ferrari regarding specifics?
I'd suspect it would indeed make a difference... and it might actually be a "real" option...or at least an increase to +/- 480 hp in a upgraded Cali. The reason: with the 458 now in full production and carrying significantly more than 500 hp, Ferrari no longer has the issue of its starter kit having more power than its mainstream model, ie the 430 had 480 hp +, so the Cali engine needed to be restricted.
Remove ragtop, and you have a 599 GTO... Why would they do that?! Cali is the starter Ferrari, not the range topper.
I got scared with the rag top ... the hard top makes the Cali look as good with the top up as down ... 430 & 360 spiders and Porsche Cab's look like crap with the top up. Keep the top hard!
Never say never. Honestly, I can't see how it would fit but given that the Vantage took the DBS V12, I suppose it could. Yes, it poses a product planning conundrum but when sales hit a wall, Ferrari gets mighty unpredictable.
+1. Was at Classy Chassis today in Houston and many didn't even know it had a hardtop. They thought, if they even knew about the Cali, that there was a coupe and conv version separately avail. Love that hardtop, but need to work on my track driving after today and seeing those Scuds go!
And, as I found out on Wed when the Sunshine Kids gig was canceled, you can't drive in the rain! My Cali was the only Ferrari to make it to the meeting point, even though it was eventually, sadly, canceled due to safety concerns. At least I don't need a jock strap!
