Mr. Sackey you remind me of the brokers in the late eighties that could tell you the history of any Italian sports car....as soon as they invented one.

I have benn working on and restoring these cars for 25 yrs. A large portion of that time was with Rod Drew at F.A.I. where I was taught the proper way to restore these cars. The cars we restored have won several awards...This is fact published in several trade publications. What is not published is for about ten years of that time Rod and I worked together, Ralph Downey came to FAI after he got off his engineering job and on weekends and restored those cars with us. Ralph also used our connections to track down original parts and information on his cars. Joe your correct about originality issues on Ralph's car. I told him he should have stayed with the color in the Road and Track article so he would not have to try and convince the uninformed it's the same car. Joe you should have been a little better informed before you went after Ralph and his car. One thing you would know is the "bond" dates on 020 & Ralph's car are 8 yrs. apart and wjho put up the bonds. Joe you could have come to FAI and witnessed Ralph taking the Road & Track LP400 apart for restoration while documenting everything.....But then I remembered Rod told you to never step foot in his shop again.
Ralph can tell you more about vintage cars than most people in the business because he loves the cars and the history....NOT the money he could make if he sold his car. Ralph has been a great friend since the day he came by the shop to see what cars we were working on. He goes out of his way to help fellow car nuts not trash them.

The other point I wanted to make/clarify for Mr Sackey is regarding Dr. Boston.
Dr. Boston has been our family doctor for 42yrs. I got into these cars when I was a little kid because Dr. Boston made house calls in his cars to see my very sick father.
Joe you hounded Doc trying to buy his LP400s because it was one of the first ones built and you had to have it for your personal collection. You were never going to sell it...you would call Doc if you decided to sell it...DID YOU ALREADY HAVE THE BUYER BEFORE YOU PURCHASED THE CAR? YOU ALSO HAVE MADE UP THE EVENTS SURROUNDING DR. BOSTON HAVING A CHOICE OF EITHER THE LP400 OR THE LP400S. HE ORDERED THE LP400 AFTER SEEING ONE IN CANADA. HE SENT LAMBORGHINI $65,000.00 TO HAVE A LP400 BUILT. LAMBORGHINI WENT BK. WHEN THEY CAME BACK THEY WERE ONLY MAKING THE S. THE ONLY CHOICE DOC HAD WAS TO COME UP WITH ANOTHER $10,000 CASH AND TAKE THE LP400S OR LOSE HIS $65,000. HE WAS LUCKY HE GOT ANYTHING AFTER THE BK...BUT HE SURE AS HELL DID NOT HAVE THE CHOICE OF SOME LP400 vs. THE LP400S HE CAME HOME WITH.

JOE ...WITH ONE PHONE CALL I KNEW 020 WAS HERE 8YRS AFTER RALPH'S AND HAD TO BE EXPORTED TO BECAUSE THE BOND WAS PULLED.

I THINK YOU OW RALPH AN APOLIGY , DR. BOSTON THE FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL (Oh that's right you sold the car) , AND LAMBO PEOPLE A REGISTER THAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE CAROL SHELBY MIGHT HAVE FOUND SOME LP400 CHASSIS ALSO.

    Mike,

At least you agree with me that an important car with a unique well-known color should be preserved!....Ill take that;-)

Where Doc Boston is concerned and the sale of that Countach (which happened by the way to make room in my garage for a Miura P400 SV I still have), its nobody's business what cars I buy and sell...Cmon, lets be fair.

Where 020 is concerned, I received information that it was the first one in, then exported. If you have something that clarifys that ANY other car was the FIRST, please forward it to us and we will change the posting without reservation. Just let me know....

    Best,
    Joe

    Mike,

Forgot to mention, I have a letter on file from Ubaldo Sgarzi dated 1978 where he offers Gene Countach LP400 1120314. According to the file which Gene turned over to me, he declined this car stating to Sgarzi that he wanted the new LP400S. To get the car, he hired a Milan-based lawyer. Thats what actually happened. Lamborghini actually did not go bankrupt till September the 1st 1980, a year-and-a-half after Gene got his car, according to yet another Automobili Lamborghini SpA letter on file.

Also to clarify, I only remember freindly, positive, albeit breif conversations with Rod Drew.

Im struggling with your Carroll Shelby analogy and what it has to do with the Registry, but Im sure you have a point there somewhere.

Since you agree with me that Ralph should not have repainetd the car red, my observation can hardly be called "bashing", can it?

I think your venom and anger is a little excessive and quite a bit misplaced. We all love these cars. Last time I checked today, I own both a Countach LP400 and a Miura SV.......so who am I to complain?

    Very Best,
    Joe

    Hey Mike,
One thing I didnt cover was the fact that I have TREMENDOUS respect for you guys (including Ralph) that work on their cars. I wish I could quit my businesses and do it for myself full-time (that would be a dream for me). But instead I have to pay someone else to do it.

I should also say that your tirade really proves nothing other than for me to note that you are in some way upset about something. Lets face it, and put things in perspective: our real lives with our families are FAR more important than ANY cars could ever be. SO, whatever is said on these chat sites affects our real lives not one iota. In that spirit, I think it is a turn-off for everyone if every posting is a (failed) attempt to prove that someone is wrong, or someone is right etc. etc. ad nauseum.

So, lets switch gears and stick to the cars and whats great about them. On that subject Mike, any ideas how to improve the "flat spot" I have on my LP400 between 2,800 and 3,500 rpm?? It runs a standard points system at the moment...

    Very Best,
    Joe

You sure spend a lot of time letting everyone know what you own. These quotes are taken from just 2 threads!

    Dear "1988.5 Testarossa Blue/Cream & 2005 Lotus Elise Green/Tan" as posted 6,329 times prior,
Isnt one of the points of the site to talk about cars we own????? A tad hypocritical YOU are for reminding us in EACH of your posts what YOU own. You know, if youve nothing positive to say, perhaps you shouldnt say anything....and perhaps instead of spending your day calculating how many times Ive made a perfectly relevant reference to my cars, maybe you should go drive one of yours...sorry, I apologise sincerely, I was just being enthusiastic about what I own. ;-)

It would be one thing if I had to dig through 1000's of posts to get those quotes. It was in 2 threads total!!!

They were all similar in appearance.....

Read carefully before commenting...I didnt "dig" anything out of his profile. The cars owns appear prominently right along with EVERY posting he makes, reminding us each time of the jewels of his collection. HE was the one suggesting that Im making reference to my cars a lot. His cars are referenced on EVERY posting he makes. ;-)

I think the Lotus Elise is a "Jewel of a little Sports Car...."
Thats exactly how I would refer to it using the word Jewel if I were describing it to someone who had no idea what it was. A great little car.
Dont quite know how Id describe the TR though...wow, I feel giddy just talking about OTHER people's cars!!!!;-)

Now can we all get a little positive? So what if I open my big mouth and make bold remarks that get me in trouble all the time....Im just as enthusiastic about the cars as the next guy....Cmon, Im the guy they love to hate (or so it would seem from these threads), but I still appreciate everyone's point of view. :)

I'm sorry Joe, I just get cranky & like Ralph a lot, so I am admittedly on the defensive side.

I do like both my cars, but they are about as different as 2 sports cars get. Unfortunately, I need to sell my TR to make a move......

So, Joe, you joined us recently, and I have enjoyed referring to your site for information on the cars, and have occasionally perused the ads, etc. It seems like you have stirred controversy here. No implying anything negative- I know virtually nothing about you. Perhaps you can tell us a little about your background, and how you got so into Lambos.

And, I am not doing this to provoke, or make you a target for anyone else. Just a simple intro, since you have been a focus here recently.

    (and a belated welcome).

Im about to go do something, but I darent say what for fear of being assailed for going overboard again....so Ill just say happy motoring!!

Im sorry too...Im too opinionated, and I have to admit Ive never interacted with a better bunch of enthusists.

Now regarding Ralph's car, I did go overboard, even though I feel I was right (in my world...;-)), and my comments were intended as constructive criticism, but if they truly hurt & offended Ralph (red LP400 that is), then Im big enough to say....IM SORRY.

Now, what are you getting in place of the TR??

Thanks for the apology. I can't speak for Ralph, but I was at least happy to see it.

Nothing is coming in place of the TR.... Just looking to sell the car, sell our house, and find a nice quiet place to relax for a while.

The funny thing is Im a Financial Planning Industry veteran of the past 25 years and the cars are truly a hobby (nobody except my wife believes me!!!)

People started asking me to find special cars for them as I have a bit of a 'nose' for that sort of thing, and found myself having to accept a small fee so as not to have ALL my time wasted...

My collection has been a revolving one in which I would often sell say a Miura, BUT ONLY because I knew of a better one.

I think I was drawn to Lamborghinis 25 years ago when I read of Ferruccio's stubborness, tenacity, and can-do attitude. I thought, "thats me!" (Im sure nobody notices my stubborness...LOL) And that, as they say is how it all started....Countachs (8 of them) and Miuras (7 of them) are pretty much the story. Dont want to go into the cars themselves too much, Jerry might get pissed with me if I talk about my own stuff (kidding Jerry);-)

    Emilio,
I want you and everyone else to know that for 25 years all I did was help fellow Lambo owners find cars and parts etc. Just ask the Lamborghini Club of America (Jim Heady), OR the Lamborghini Owners Club (Jim Kaminski). Recently, because my time is limited, Ive commercialized my activities a little to compensate for time away from my real business, but guys I find some of the very BEST Lamborghinis out there. REALLY, if you are looking, I WILL HELP you...
Ive owned every Countach made. LP400, LP400S, LP500S, LP5000QV, and Annivesario. Ive driven them all extensively. I know them well. Ive maintained them. Ive loved them. Ive hated them. Ive adored them.
    Today I have one LP400.
Ive owned 7 Miura SVs. Same sentiments as above. Today I have one P400SV.
Thats it for the Lambos today, 1 LP, 1 SV. Im sure youve gathered by now these 2 are my favorites, after all, they are all that remain...;-)
Then I have a 1977 first series Porsche 930 (no catalyst, no intercooler, no 5th gear, just 3 liters....from an era when less was more!) and some English and German cars no-body cares about, at least not on this site!

Once again, Im sorry some of my strong sentiments have upset others (perhaps Ill have to apologize in each future posting), but I really thought car guys have thicker skins...but apparently not!

    Very Best,
    Joe Sackey
