When I was 15 (2001) my family owned a 1991 Saab 900S (non turbo, 5 speed, sedan, base model).

In NH, you're allowed to take driver's education when you're 15.5, as long as you turn 16 before the course ends (graduation). I did, and finished on December 9, one day after my 16th birthday. Two days later I had my driver's license, and my mom handed me the keys to that Saab.

We had always been a Saab family. My parents wanted their kids in safe, slow, tanks (they forgot to account for expensive repairs and a lot of parts NLA or unavailability LOL).

So, it was all mine. I drove it to school 40 minutes away everyday until I graduated HS in 2004. It went all over New England. Up to Higher Ground in Burlington VT, down to Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, out to the upper North Shore in MA, over to Hampton Beach in NH, the Palladium in Worcester, Avalon Ballroom on Landsdowne (I really liked going to concerts).

It was my faithful mechanical companion. And when I moved "up" into a 9000CS, I never really forgot about that car and how much I loved the way reverse would pop out of gear unless you held it in place, or how you could start it with a flathead if I lost my key...

Well, yesterday I called about a 900 on Saabnet (it's still up, and not marked as sold yet) and off of 3 photos, decided to take the plunge, and get back that nostalgia I have wanted for a really long time.

So, my 1991 Saab 900S, non turbo, sedan, 5 speed, BASE shows up in a few days, and I don't know if I have every been this excited for a car purchase before (which is nuts, cuz I've had a few fun ones :)

More to report on delivery day....but for now, from the web.

Always likes these. Had a buddy who owned a Saab dealership and bought a couple from him over the years.

And, I'm sure, as you work out the kinks in this "new" car, you'll have a few "Saab stories" (sorry couldn't help myself on the pun) to share.

Heartbreak and Saab can be synonymous.

It's not the same VIN you owned years ago is it? That would be quite a coincidence!

I wish John. I don’t remember where that car went. I think I sold it to Saab Works in Milford NH around 2004 when it needed more work than I had the money to provide to fix it.

Yea, I'd like to get my old 1969 Olds 4-4-2 back, but the internet comes up blank. Probably gone to the big crusher up in the sky.

Ken, isn't the key inserted into the floor versus the steering column on these models?

A Saab was probably the last car I would have guessed when I read the thread title.

We made it from my shop to my road....and then the o2 sensor bucking kicked in, and I limped it up the driveway....RockAuto the the rescue, and we'll be back up and running in a few days.

My reminiscing for nostalgia remembers the feeling of that Saab engine sputtering with a coughed up o2, I am 16 again. :D

I have a feeling that Saab will be around long enough for the two munchkins to get their Drivers License with it!
