Lot of guys leaving these days. I feel lucky the only ferrari I really want just happens to be the only one i can afford to own and maintain responsibly. All Ferrari's stir my blood but I don't crave anything else. Damn it feels good!

Remember what you've got fellas cus that 'upgrade' your thinking about will lose it's luster just as quick if you forget what it is that makes it special.

The small Ferrari's are the nice ones!

    Ps. I would take a 246 or 288 any day however :)

While I do hope one day to own a Lambo or an F430 spider, I will always love my 348. Even though it is my first Ferrari mainly due to the lower price verses some of the others out there, I have always wanted one. So even if I am able to get one of the above cars, the 348 is not going anywhere. I will just need to add on to the garage. ;)

I wont say that I will never part with my 348, but I love it and I currently have no plans or intentions of ever parting with it!

This is a zero sum game. For every seller, there is a buyer. For every defection, there is someone new to join.

I very rarely drive mine these days. Averaging about once a month, yet I just can't bear to part with it.

I'm really struggling with this dilemma for over a month now. I'm the 2nd owner of my '93 348SS, I've had it for over 13.5 years and love it like a family member. I always said I would keep it forever and only add to the stable as well. The 348 is still a small Ferrari and a more raw and pure driving experience compared to the F430's, 458, and Gallardo I've driven. Having said that, F430 prices are dropping and I'm really itching to get one because it's driving experience is exhilarating in it's own right, it has the advantage of being "put together" better with more modern manufacturing practices, and maintenance costs less. Not only could I not afford to now but even if I could, I'm not sure how realistic it is for me to have two Ferrari's with all the maintenance, repair, insurance, and registration costs (and dissenting wife). FoA also did a major on my 348 a year ago so that's a positive for selling now.

I guess the decision comes down to either being lifelong committed (financially and emotionally) to the 348 and foregoing getting a newer Ferrari for a very long time, if not forever, OR overcoming this emotional attachment and use available resources instead to get something more modern every 10 years or so and spend, presumably, less on keeping Ferrari's on a "lifeline".

I'm pretty sure I know which way you guys will lean but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    Thanks.

That is a SWEET SS!! Man, I would hang on to that thing. I can't say for sure, obviously, but I'd think that one day you may regret letting it go. IMHO, the newer cars just don't have the same personality. Interestingly, I was talking with another major Ferrari fan the other day about how different the company is now, too. Our cars are a bit of an attachment to a time when things were still made in relatively small numbers and often by hand. What that can lack in quality control it more than makes up for in mojo. Again, IMO.

Nice shot of the car, too...that is Perimeter Center in the background, yeah?

That is exactly what I had planned - 348 as my first, then adding a 430 later on.

I sold my 348 Spider because I felt it was time to move on to a 355. And then I bought a 348 SS. It's a slippery slope. :D

I can't sell my SS. Why give it away to someone that will most likely neglect her? I bought a car lift and plan on expanding the collection. Can't decide on what to add another V8 or a V12. A 612 would fit the family real nice.

    Wow. 13.5 years!

Do you realize what you've got that most modern owners will never have - a story, a relationship, provenance! Most car enthusiasts had a dad or know of someone who still has that 30 year old Datsun in his garage. He's had it since he was kid and through sweat and tears has replaced every part on it at least once. That's the **** you miss out on by jumping from girl to girl, a good bloody story. I for one have found the baby I'm in it with for the long haul. Not going to be deprived of my Ferrari story.

    Don't sell it.

I am one of the defectors that Troy is eluding to. In fact, Troy and I purchased our cars at about the same time. We both did our majors with the help of many on this forum. I truly love my 348. In the next couple of days, a dealer in Florida will be picking up my car. I traded it in on a 2000 360. I hadn't really planned to do it, in fact I have all the REdline oils etc for my spring maintenance in the garage. That said, the prices on the 360's are too reasonable to pass up. Additionally, the dealer gave me a very, very fair price on my 348 as well. AS much as I love my 348, I want to experience a car "10 years more modern" with a bit more horsepower (the one issue I had with my 348).

I hope like hell that I am not disappointed having spent so much time and money making my 348 "right". But, I guess I can always move back........I just wish the 360 guys had a similar group of stooges, posting the "fixes" for our cars as well as alternate parts sources.

So, that is MY explanation and I intend to continue to monitor the 348 threads and keep up with you guys who have helped me so much......

Nnnnoooooooo! Mark, what did you do? :) Nice car Mark - pics?

I had no idea but I think you picked the absolute right time to get a 360 as the prices appear to be close to bottomed out... Geeez, after all the work you did..... Aarrh....

Things are worse than I thought guys...

    All the best Mark.

I will post pics once I get the car, but it is on Euro Sports website, "resale red", tan interior, F-1 with 9800 miles. Belts etc done last July at our local F-Dealer right here in Michigan. I am looking for a challenge rear grill....should anyone have one of them for sale

Funny, I've been thinking about investing in a 348, either TS or spider. I like the engine simplicity and the body style of the spider. The TS looks ok, but open cars are my weakness.

Does anyone know if the belts can be done on a 348 without pulling the engine cradle? I'm guessing it's one of those answers like 'it's possible, but not recommended.' I've done belts and cam adjustment on my Mondial in the car and it wasn't that hard. Of course, the 348 is an in line arrangement rather than crosswise.

I see a fair number with a repl clutch. Is the clutch a weak point on this? I'd like a fly yellow or one of those blue metallic ones, rather than the definitive corso rosa.

it's possible but not recommended :D you have to remove the fuel tank and take a deep breath in and squeeze. As far as I know it has only been attempted once or twice but not recommended.

I feel like a traitor from this thread :(.

Mark, congratulations on the 360, that too along with the 430 is one of my favourites.

As for the money spent on the 348 - think of it this way: it will be passed on to the next 348 Brother in-waiting ;)

And I have to agree with you regarding the Brotherhood and our "how-to-fix" threads, the 348 is second to none when it comes to that.

Thank you Mike. I had a notebook full of "fiy" threads from the 348 tech guru's. I have been searching the archives for the same relating to the 360 and sadly, there isn't much. I guess I will have to wait for one of the "stooges" to purchase a 360.....hint, HINT....
