Martin Brundle had minor heart attack during 2016 Monaco Grand Prix - F1 - Autosport Martin you might want to listen to what your body says is possible rather than what you feel you want to do. We have limits even at your age
I wouldn't call manning up to do the interviews is being a champion when you have chest pains. I lost a brother in law to a heart attack because he didn't man up and go to the doctor when he had chest pains.
Good for him. But the fact that he then goes on to LeMans to get pole shows how uncompetitive that series has become
Lucky man. I never got chest pains, just a massive coronary at age 38, the dog woke me up licking my face!
Sorry to hear that mate - coincidentally tonight the hospital's given me a take home monitor to check on me ! Doesn't seem like he was neglecting himself, seems from the article that it just happened with no warning. Best, Sammy
A lot of people have minor heart attacks and never realise it because they think it's just a bout of indigestion/heartburn. As for thoughts that Brundle should stop racing cars because of what has happened: If the heart attack was purely due to a narrowing of an artery, and the heart muscle itself was not badly damaged, then once the stem has been fitted and the artery opened back up to allow the blood to flow properly once more, there shouldn't really be any issues with him racing cars. Let's face facts here, I seriously doubt that Martin Brundle has simply been to see his local Doctor and then gone to the nearest hospital to have his heart condition checked out and corrected. I suspect that with the money he has, he is far more likely to have seen the best specialists, and the best surgeons to make sure everything is going to be okay, and if they say that he's fine to race cars again, then he's fine to race cars again. If his Doctors had any doubts, I'm sure they would have told him not to do it.
Lucky guy! I actually met him in person in 2015 at the Texas Grand Prix. Alonso, Damon Hill and Lewis (aka Elton) were there as well. It was a crazy private party on a Sunday night.
It was 2008, and actually quite lucky... I almost died, but didn't, had stents and time off, and my critical illness policy paid out so I was able to ride out the credit crunch for the first few years on the lump sum. Bearing in mind I'm in financial services, writing mortgages, as you can imagine, business would have been more than a little slow otherwise and I'd probably have gone bust. Difficult to imagine calling a heart attack lucky I know, but this time, it was a life saver. Cause was simply lifestyle, working too hard, chasing too much skirt, and smoking and drinking espresso like a good Sicilian should. Even my daily caponata didn't help!
I did actually manage to pass him once, after he had put it on pole, Ahh okok, i forgot to mention that he was retiring at the time with loose bodywork on lap 1 Remember his Tyrrell crash midway through his rookie season in F1, Dallas 1984, when he broke both feet and ankles,he missed the rest of the season as he could not even run to keep fit, left foot braking out of the question etc. Great that he recovered from that ,and several other big shunts, and continues to be involved in F1 ,even still driving competitively in other forms of Motor Sport. He didn't get an F1 win, like the vast majority of drivers but it wasn't through any lack of effort on his part. Anyhow good luck Martin, don't stop driving whatever you can get your hands on!
